Hi all,
Riley has been licking 2 of her paws (one front, one back) for about the last week. She hasn't really been irritating them much by biting or gnawing at them, just pretty much licking. They look more red and inflammed than the other 2 that she's not licking. I've looked at them and it doesn't seem like she has any cuts or anything stuck there. Based on my research here, I know that its probably allergies of some kind. i just switched her to Fromm's Duck and Sweet Potato a couple of weeks ago because she was having a problem with hives. The hives have been completely gone for a few weeks now, but I still don't know if her allergies are environmental or food-related. Now I'm thinking maybe she's allergic to the food? AHHH! She loves it though and her BM's have been much smaller, firm and less frequent (which is good). I don't know if this licking thing is in reaction to an environmental allergen...when she had the hives (which were persistent for about 3 weeks) she WASN'T licking her paws ar all. We've had some crazy weather here in the NE - the rain that lasted for a week straight - so I don't know what kind of allergens are floating around!
