I have a few of questions. I have a 1.5 year old female who is a inside dog. She sleeps out of her crate at night but we keep her in her crate while we're @ work. How do you get the nerve to leave them out during the day? Or do you keep crating them forever? I'm not really afraid of her messing in the house but afraid of her getting bored and tearing sh$@ up. She does fine at night. Only vomited in the night. Maybe peed once or twice. tore up a couple pieces of tp but what dog doesn't. Are there some training techniques to follow to get them ready?

Also when she gets out and not supposed to she'll bolt. she's very stubborn and won't come. What's the best way of fixing that? She's very smart but I think she has add or something.

Has anyone else had a problem of getting them to come inside when they scratch to come in? My girl will scratch to come inside after going outside to pee but when u open the door to let her in she just sits there and stares. Sometimes she'll turn around and run off to play. What's that about?

Any advice is good advice. Thanks

It took me years to trust Cairo -- probably she was three when we trusted her enough to leave her alone outside of her crate. It's a tough call, because not only can they get into things, they can eat and choke on things. You could try it for short jaunts to the grocery story or out to dinner, and see how she does. It will be a LONG time before I can trust Suki out of her crate.

Another thought is to find a really good doggie daycare or petsitter, and have that service twice a week or so. That's what works for us, and Suki is a much happier dog!

For Suki and recall, I have found this amazing treat that she loves, and that does it. She always gets a treat when she comes inside, so for her, it's a rewarding experience. She will NOT come for my husband, but for me, she will follow me if I run away, and I always make it a game when she runs away from me, so she'll return to play some more. That's what has worked for us. 100% reliable? So far, yes. I don't have time to do really intense training, so we make it a game.

I have advice about leaving out of crate. You have to build it up, the time out, little by little, our girl Lily is 1.5 years and we are just starting to give her a little freedom, while we are outside doing yard work and check on her. Hope to increase to more hours, I am home with her now all day. What I did in the past with Ginger, I worked close to home, I would leave her out 1/2 day, come home for lunch to check on things. If that is not an option, try 1/2 hour, then 1 hour, 2 hours & so on, on the weekends till you feel she can be trusted. I also close every door inside so she won't get into much. Good luck.
