leaky male boxer

Our boxer has been leaking for 3 months. We have ran every test imaginable including a bladder sonogram. He was on Proin for 2.5 months and it didn't help. He got a testosterone shot a week ago and he is dribbling again. The vet once to try a different medication. Our boxer has been fixed. Has yours? they say this very seldom happens in male dogs only female. I am also at my wits end. If I find the answer I will let you know. Please do the same.

FYI: Proin and Phenylpropoalimine are one in the same. The Proin is a brand name compounded version with flavor enhancers to make it chewable. There are several other companies that also make a compound. As with any drug it is important that blood work is done at least once a year to make sure that you aren't overloading the kidneys and liver.

For people with dogs, that are not finding any refuge in using the Proin type drugs or DES (hormone) type products, you might want to speak with your vet about taking x-rays and making sure the dog doesn't have a pelvic bladder.

What this means is that the bladder is further back in the pelvis then it should be, therefore it cannot expand fully and has other organs that aren't suppose to press on it, on it. This can lead to leaking. The xrays would have to be taken under sedation with a urinary catheter placed to deliver a contrast media into the bladder so that it could be seen more clearly on xray.

If in doubt, seek a second opinion!

Hope this helps. Best of luck!
