I think it has more to do with you and how you want your dog to behave than any kind of dominance/aggression issues. If you are the kind of person that doesn't mind your dog cuddling with you and being up on the furniture (and it sounds like you are), well then there is nothing wrong with her doing so!

You might want to teach her to ask first though, for manner's sake... we didn't with Hurricane and now the poor boy just can't understand that some people do NOT appreciate a fur lap blanket plopping himself down wherever he pleases We allow him to sleep in the bed with us as well. He knows though that if we tell him to move or get off that he must do so. He will most likely grumble about it, and give that pathetic "but why do you hate me so?" face, but he will obey.

If however, you were like my parents, who think a dog's place is at your feet on the floor and NEVER on furniture, well then that would be something important for you to train. Again, I think it comes back to you and how you think your boxer should fit into your life and home rather than worrying about encouraging dominance or any such rubbish as that. That said, enjoy her! They do make fantastic lap warmers in the middle of wintertime.....

Just keep in mind that they get heavier when they grow up. I often regret allowing Moto onto my lap when he was a puppy. He still wants to get up on me, especially in the winter and he is now very heavy. :(

Apparently I am in the minority here, but personally we do not allow our dogs onto the bed, couch, etc. I have 2 dog pillows, my boy that eats bedding has a chew proof bed in his crate (where he sleeps at night and when we're not here), my girl has 3 blankets in her crate (she's never locked in but she enjoys sleeping in there sometimes, but we don't allow the dogs on the furniture. A BIG reason is that many Boxers are not small nor are they light and as with most dogs lay outside and do get dirty just with dust, etc. I don't particularly want my light colored couch to become disgustingly dirty, and quite honestly I don't want it smelling like "dog" either. No dogs on the furniture, no human kid on the couch with food, drinks or shoes.

Everyone has to make that decision for themselves I think. I do agree that if you DO allow it I'd recommend you teach them to ask because my friend allows her dog on the couch whenever and when I went over there I wanted to sit down (the spot he was in was the only spot available) I told him to go and he didn't and when I tried to nudge him to move he actually snapped at me. Now he's only 17 pounds, but still, I was rather annoyed that I'm a guest in her home and I have to compete with the DOG for a space to sit down. And then he proceeded to try and crawl all over me and take his spot back and when I'm allergic to him I wasn't too thrilled. So if you decide to do that realize they do get bigger and you may want to teach manners so your company doesn't feel unwelcome LoL.

OOOHH, that's such a pet peeve of mine -- dogs that jump all over the furniture and all over YOU!! My grandparents' have a 2-yr-old small mixed breed they got from the shelter last year, and that dog has the WORST manners ever. My grandparents have always been strict with their dogs in the past, not letting them beg for food or get on the sofa... not with this dog! I'm not allergic so I don't mind too much, unless I'm trying to eat... then it's REALLY annoying.

We do allow our dogs up on the bed with us, or even in our laps if we're sitting, but ONLY if they've been invited. It's an occasional thing... usually for those weekend mornings when we're sleeping in, or late nights hanging out with friends on the back porch. :D But, I don't allow it all the time because I want the dogs understand that they can't just jump up on anyone or anything whenever they want to.

OMG do they ever! The killer bony elbows! Hurricane has finally figured out when we start saying OUCH and pushing on his leg to move it so that his elbow stops digging into us. He is actually a fantastic cuddler, it is down to a science so that wherever we are and whatever position we are in, he has a spot to lay that is comfortable for him and for us. Love my cuddle bug!

I had a rough time explaining all the small bruises on my legs at my last drs appointment. I'm pretty sure they didn't believe it was from Johann's elbows.... Those elbows are brutal.

Tyson (18 mths) always cuddles with us on the couch, all he needs is us watching a movie or program and he comes over no matter how much space is there (if any), However in bed he always waits until he is invited before coming to our bed.
There is nothing better then cuddling with an 70 lbs teddy bear after a long day of work. Its the best part of my day personally.
