our laila thinks she's a lap dog. the breeder wanted to keep her and she was the only girl in the litter, so she tended to be held a lot by the breeder. now, the only way she'll fall asleep is in our arms or on our laps. once she's asleep, we put her in front of her crate, and she walks right in. she's even sleeping 5+ hours at night in her crate. and when she wakes up in the night and needs to go out, we'll put her back into her crate awake, she'll cry for a bit, but then she falls back asleep. it's the other times that worry me. i want her to get used to falling asleep in her crate.

she loves her crate and will go into it to play, but not when she's falling over tired. that's when she comes to find us.

i may be making a bigger deal out of this than necessary -- she'll be 8 weeks on monday, so i hope as she gets older, she'll realize, i just worry that we're spoiling her too much right now.

any suggestions?

So cute. Congeats on the new puppy. She sounds like a complete doll.
I think you do need to be careful about forming bad habits when they are little. Considering she will settle in the crate, loves it and is sleeping well then I do not think you should worry. The cuddle time is good bonding time. She is so well adjusted it doesn't seem like you need to worry.

Best of luck with your sweetie.

Boxers are lap dogs in a big dog body! Bayleigh is 2 years old, 65 pounds and a spoiled lap dog. She still loves to climb into my lap for a nap.

She is also crate trained. She is in her crate during the day but she sleeps in our bed at night. She never used to go into her crate for a nap while we were home but lately she has been. The only thing I can think of is I put a blanket over her crate so it is dark and den like.

I wouldn't worry about the spoiling, especially if you are also working on training. It's hard to NOT spoil them!

Congrats on the new puppy! I would't worry about your precious baby. I think all boxers are lap dogs no matter their age or weight.

Rosco thinks that he just as small as his cousin Moe (shih tzu) and wants to be held like a baby and thinks that there is no problem sitting on your lap. According to Rosco 70 pounds and 13 pounds (Moe) seem close enough that we humans shouldn't notice. No matter where I sit, he wants to sit on my lap. There are times when he is standing in front of me while I am sitting, and his butt will shimmy up onto my lap and his front legs will still remain standing. If I am sitting on the floor, and you tell him to sit, it's like my lap has some magnetic pull, he turns around and sits on my lap. That's his personality and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Big brown eyes, slobbery kisses, boxer wiggles . . . how can you not spoil them?

Don't you know that Boxers are lap dogs? Mine is 9 months old and he does not know that he weighs over 50lbs. If I sit down on the floor, he is on my lap and tries his best to squeeze his back legs into my lap. If I lie on the sofa, he is also on me, practically on my tummy!

I'm pretty sure all boxers are lap dogs! We have an 80lb boy who just has to be on top of someone. This morning he was on my lap, and I was telling him to "get down", and instead, he tried to climb onto the back of the couch and onto my shoulders to relax!! Can you say "HELP!"? lol

I have uploaded a picutre of him laying on me, one of his many luxuries.

Lola isn't a lap dog but Zeb sure is, at the kitchen table, on the computer chair, on the sofa. He just has to be on your lap

Chief was the last one out of his litter too. And the breeders kept him in the house with them... so he is also very spoiled. He has to be really tired and then he'll meander right into his crate. He usually naps on my lap while I'm watching tv. Or else he will perch his hind legs on my lap and wrap his arms around my shoulders like a baby and fall asleep like that. Lately, he's been spoiled by us allowing him to sleep in our bed. But the longer he's here he has no issues with going in his crate when we're ready to leave to go somewhere. Especially if we leave his favorite toys in there on his blanket! I can't help but to spoil!

Lucy is a total lap dog. I have pictures of her in my gallery where she sleeping the both of my kids. If anyone sits down she will be in your lap. She is a mama girl, if she is in my daughters lap and I sit down she will always come to be with her mama.
