I think we're just so used to seeing them with their nubbies that long tails don't look right to some of us. It's like seeing a dog that normally has a long tail with a nubbie. I personally love the nubbie!

Tae is SO cute! I love the way her ail curles up. the first thing i thought of was like a whippet tail for a miute! this is the first tailed boxer i have seen. like i said, it all SHOULD come back to personal prefernce as well as traditional practice. I like my little nubbies, myself. i have a floppy and a crop, niether was really a choice, jsut the way it happened. but i think, given a choice, i would chose cropped. but then i am very much a traditionalist, so i would prefer the traditional look. origianlly the ears and the tails were done to reduce injusries in fights with buls and bears, IIRC

You know how Boxers get so excited that they can't wag their nubs fast enough, so they wag their entire hiney? If they have tails, do they still do that?
And I have a similar reason for loving the floppy ears! When tucker shakes, it starts at his butt, rolls up his body, and then hits his cheeks, lips, and ears. It's like a tuning fork, and it's just so cute. Those lips and ears shake longer than the rest of him, and they make that adorable flopping noise. (Plus, I think the floppy years make their faces look softer and more snuggly)

I was going to tell ya'll to ask Becky about Tae, because she's gorgeous with her tail, and I've never read any stories where Becky has said anything about tail injuries. But I see she's already posted. IMO I think it should come down to your personal preference. Herkie has his natural ears and a nubbie, my ex-BF wanted to get his ears cropped, but I just couldn't bear to do it. Especially since Herkie's best friend as a pup was a Dobie pup the same age named Keano, and his owner was having a FIT with his ears! No way was I going to put Herkie through that after I saw Keano, although he did look soooo cute with his little bandages on!

I'm going to be the unpopular one here and say that I mostly agree with the ban. I hear about all these ear cropping stories and taping puppy ears just to get a certain look. I think it is cruel and selfish. I am glad that Owen came with a nubbin, but if he had a tail, he would have kept it.

BTW-I saw a link-I think it was here- about a man in Europe crossing boxers and Pembroke Welsh Corgies (sp?) to create a naturally nubbed boxer. Now I think that is the best of both worlds :D !

Docking
When docked at the appropriate age, the nerves in the tail are not developed and cause the pup no pain and minimal bleeding. Growing up on a farm, we (my father and I) have docked thousands of piggy tails and dozens of doggie tails (Rotties). Nobody has mentioned the AKC standard!! Our girl is docked, natural (adopted that way), but who cares? We love our kiddos no matter what! Circumcising our human baby boys causes some pain but we do it.

Umm. I think not. That would be Dr Bruce Cattanach and his bobtail boxer program - which are, incidentally, accepted from the 5th (I think) generation cross as purebred boxers around the world. There are bobtails in several countries, including, I believe, the USCiscobxr said:

I'd suggest you do a little research on Dr Cattanach and his Bobtails before slandering them. Not everyone's cup of tea, for sure, but by no means is this the production of mutts that will end up in shelters either. On the contrary, they are being successfully shown in several countries - and have even qualified for Crufts in some cases. For obvious reasons, there are significant breeding programs underway in some countries that have banned docking. Far from ending up in shelters, in some cases there simply are not enough bobtail boxers to satisfy demand...
PS: Bongo - this is an international site, not a US one. Some countries have their own standard, but it's worth noting that the one most widely in use around the world (the FCI) calls for a natural tail
