kongs - he doesn't chew them

New pup, eight weeks. I keep reading about kongs, and I bought the puppy kong and anxiously put peanut butter in it. But, he doesn't even notice it. Is that unusual?

Give him time. Try holding it and letting him sniff the PB! He'll catch on dontyaworry!!!!! Cassius doesn't chew his kongs either, he views them strictly as treat dispensers!!

It's not unusual at all!

When we first brought Buster home at 9 weeks, it took a while before he was at all interested in ANYTHING we put in his crate. When we first started crate training, he wanted OUT. He couldn't care less what else was in the crate with him. But, I'm happy to say that it took a few weeks (and an inhuman amount of patience!!) of ignoring his screams (OMG! what a set of lungs on that boy! ) but he did settle down and take an interest in the crate goodies.

After a few weeks, the PB stuffed kong became a favorite. I head to the freezer for one, he sees me and runs to his crate - it's a good system!

Be patient - at that age, everything is new to your pup. Just give him lots of love and some time.

My dogs don't chew on theirs either....they just smack them around to get treats to fall out of them....but they sure have fun romping around with them

I would listen to everyone else really when Domino was a pup he didn't care about Kongs either.
Now at 3 1/2 yrs old he will chew it, play tug of war with it ,eat his treats out of it...you name it.....it's his best toy of all(well besides a tennis ball) :p

The only time Boz bothers with his kong is when it's filled with peanut butter. Otherwise he has no interest at all :rolleyes:

Austin wouldnt touch a Kong before his sister Jazmine arrived. Nothing seemed to spark an interest for him Peanut butter would dry up and actually flake off and cookies would go stale before he would eat it . Since she cannot have rawhides and has a special diet I fill the kongs with a canned version of her diet and give them each one frozen. Right now she is carring hers around in her mouth I guess to wait for it to thaw out...and he has almost finished his off.

Victor didn't show any interest in his Kong at first either but now he but now he will play with it, throw it around and chew on it. I havent' put PB in his yet though.

My 9 wk old pup HATES peanut butter in his kong but "cheez whiz" is another story...he goes to town on it then...try some!

Myles loves PB in his kong but like the others, he doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to it when it doesn't have something tasty inside. He even helps me look for his kong when I say 'PB'!
