Has anyone ever used Kong Toys with their boxer? I was researching about them, and it's supposed to keep dogs from chewing other things like furniture. It says that you fill the toy with a mixture of peanut butter, treats, ,dog food, etc. It's supposed to keep the dog busy since they have to work to get the stuffing out. Has this worked for anyone else? Has anyone ever used it? We bought one for our boxer puppy, and I'm hoping that it keeps him away from chewing our furniture.

I got the puppy kong for Hogan. I have filled it with kibble and than topped it off with teaspoon of natural peanut butter. I put it in the freezer for a little while so the peanut butter isn't as soft. HE LOVED IT! He spent about an hour on it trying to get the stuff out. Sometimes I feed him with his kong like a game. I fill it with kibble and give it to him. He rolls it around and eats everything that falls out. He picks it up and tosses it to get the last pieces. I have to fill it about 4 times in a row until he's done for that session. They also sell a spray stuffing in pet stores. I haven't tried that. As far as keeping them from chewing: It seems that nothing is more fun to chew than a good piece of wood, but the kong does occupy them for a while. I think Hogan is ready for the adult size soon.

Kongs are a wonderful invention. We got one for Cami when she was about 10 weeks old. I alternate between filling it with yogurt and filling it with banannas and peanut butter. They last longer (or it takes longer) for them to empty out if you freeze them. Cami gets one almost daily while hubby and I eat in peace!
She never begs for our dinner it just seems that dinnertime is when she wants to play with the cat, go outside, play with the cat, go outside......dinner is best not spent getting up from the table constantly and the Kong allows us to do just that!

On an even better note, she loves the Kong so much that it aided me in getting her home when she accidentally got out the front door when she was about 3 months old.
When it's time for her Kong, I say kong-kong-kong-kong....really fast and it ALWAYS get's her attention. She then knows that she has to go to her "bed" in the family room....which she runs to. Anyhow, when she got out instead of running after her (she was already at the neighbors house), I just yelled kong-kong-kong and she stopped dead in her tracks and hightailed her butt right back home and thru the front door! And of course, she got a kong!

You really should get one!

I think you will find a majority of people on this board use Kongs. Just make sure to have the proper size. On top of using regular kongs I also have the treat ball and a planet kong space ship. Gazou loves them to, I stick cookies in them. Freezing stuffed kongs is really a great way to have everything stick together. Go with things your dog loves. As someone mentioned before put kibble and just a teaspoon of peanut butter mix all together and freeze, that way you don't put too much PB won't upset the tummy but it still tastes great to them!

Have fun!

Kongs toys are great, my two love them, we have several different types of toys by the Kong Company, they are very durable.

They especially love PB in their kong when they go in their crates when I go out.

A kong will definetely help keep your dog entertained but its no guarantee he will not chew furniture. If this is happening when you are out you may want to think about crating that way he definetly won't be chewing furniture.

I must have the wrong size. The hole is very small, and would be hard to get soft stuff into it. Also, doesn't the soft stuff make a big ol mess when it comes out?

Kongs are great ways to keep our bundles of energy occupied when used with treats, but our boy also likes to play fetch with it and generally chase it around, even when there's nothing in it! He's a fairly powerful chewer, too, and the kongs are very, very durable!

Freeze it! It can be a bit messy but most dogs are great and will eat every tiny morsel that come out!

Baxter loves when I put peanut butter in the Kong! Well, he loves peanut butter in general. What a great way to keep them occupied and satisfied!
