okay everyone! let's let the deer stuff go?? the post was originally about little Kona, and I think that's what everyones concern was. Let's not get all fired up over something else - especially something that is not going to be resolved??? :D

Just happy to hear that Kona will be inside. Backfist - best to you and Kona...stick arond on BW - it's a great site.

backfist, you just proved that BW is a great community to come to for advise and support for all your boxer questions and concerns! You also proved that you do love your boxer enough to do what's best for her!
I know that most of us can get very passionate when it comes to the care of our boxers. Please don't confuse this passion for rudeness. Most of us have come to realize that educating some people about the breed is almost pointless as we often see or hear of many cases of abuse and neglect, and it just tears us up inside! However, as in this case, our advise is not always falling on deaf ears. I'm very glad you decided to stay with us instead of permantely logging off of BW! Kudos to you! appicon
Kona will love and appreciate you even more now! And now that she's inside with her pack, you will get to learn and enjoy every aspect of the boxers charachter! cool2icon
*a side note regarding the comment about deer hunting...PALEEZE people! Don't we all have different interests and hobbies? We may not have to agree with everyones lifestyles, but imagine if we were all the same? What a boring world this would be. I think we all agree that these types of judgemental comments do not belong on BW! ;)

Well put. And thank you Backfist for putting Kona's needs first. Boxers are really nothing more than skin children covered with a (thin coat of) fur! I'm sure Kona will thrive the more love and attention you give!

Listen to the advise about food allergies etc, boxers do tend to have a very sensitive digestive system and it may take some looking to find something that agrees with Kona so have patience and keep looking :

Woohoo!! Good job at taking our advice to heart and taking her to the vet!! Once she gets on a high quality diet her vomitting and diarrhea should go away! She will be much happier in the house with her family!

behave people!

One of the things that make this site--and country--great, is our freedom to disagree....and I am sooo glad that there has been happy resolution with Backfist/Kona, as many of us have bee concerned and now, relieved, and I have already posted a big "thank you/apology/welcome" to Backfist in regards to this...

however, I have to add, DY74, your comments to TXJOLE were out of line :( While you may not agree with hunting, this is not the proper place for that kind of behavior or insulting comment. This thread was in regards to Kona and helping her owner, not debating or condemning others for their beliefs or practices which have nothing to do with boxers--which is the focus of this site. Further, your insult was rude and given without full knowledge of the situation, I think you owe TXJOLE a big apology.

TXJOLE, as a member of BW, I would like to say that I am sorry you were treated so rudely.

Finally---lets all take a deep breath....and remember why we are all here in the first place--to make friends, share our positive experiences, find support and advise when it is needed, and because we care about our wonderful boxers! :)

Kona's inside. And will stay inside.

Vet confirmed what I had read and heard from other owners: Boxers tend to have digestive problems that are, at times, inexplicable. Continue on with the current high quality food. No worms; no parasites to speak of at this point though.
I'm soooooooooo Happy Kona's healthy and inside appicon appicon appicon

Now that there's resolution on inside vs. outside, I'd like to revisit the dog house question.

I can't figure out why Kona will no longer go into her dog house. The other day--a nice, unseasonably warm day-- I tossed a treat into her house. She stretched out like a telescope, but she wouldn't set one paw in her house.

Any thoughts?

In my experience I have never known a boxer to enjoy being an outside dog and that means using a doghouse. Now my boxer, ShaKira, has a doghouse in the basement, in my computer room, that she does go in and lay down while I am on the computer. We have an outside doghouse on an enclosed back porch and she will run inside of it and roll around and act like a fool but as far as using it just to lay in, I can't see her ever doing this as she is only outside long enough to use the potty or if I am outside then she will stay out longer. Maybe Kona just doesn't like the whole idea of a doghouse, all dogs are different just like all people are different. Do you use a crate for indoors? If so, how does she do with that?

Maybe she just doesn't like it. Is it brand new or "used", if it was used then she may not want it because of prior dogs. I don't know, just a suggestion.

By the way, this is my first post for this thread and I am glad you let Kona inside too. I am in KY and we have really cool nights and I can't imagine Joe outiside in it.

Maybe she doesn't like that it's dark and enclosed. Beau likes to be able to see everything that's going on at all times, so I don't think he'd be too keen on a doghouse either. He also likes to bask in the sunlight. If it was a sunny day, maybe she wanted to be where she could sit in the sun.

kona refuses...

Is it possible that something scared her while she was in the doghouse? Maybe another critter of some sort--possum, rodent...???? Do you have cats in the area that may have been in there and possibly sprayed? Can you climb in there and check it out--any sharp nails, splinters, boards, etc that may have jabbed or harmed her? I would check it out well and maybe give it a good cleaning in case there are any smells or odors that are offending her and see if that helps. Try to make it a positive thing--offering treats is a good start, if she weren't having digestive issues, I would suggest getting a nice big bone from the butcher and placing it in the doghouse for her as incentive and so she will see the using the doghouse as a positive experience. We built a doghouse for my old boxer and at first he refused to go in it, I would crawl in and coax him in with treats, then sit with him and praise him--he finally figured out it was a safe place for him to hang out in when he wanted his "privacy" if he was playing in the yard or gnawing on a bone (he never stayed outside in it at night or anything).
