Kona Refuses Dog House

I've decided to move the family to Hawaii. This should resolve the problem.

If you come here asking for advice, then be prepared for the truth. There are ppl on here who will tell you how it is, if you had done research on the breed or taken common sense into consideration you wouldnt have had the reactions you received.

OUTSIDE?? In the WINTER??? what the heck were you thinking?? My two do NOT go outside for long periods of time in the winter for anything let alone sleep out there. I had a St Bernard and even he slept on the enclosed porch in the winter because it's so cold. I can't even imagine.

If you are worried about Kona making a mess in the house at night, kennel her in an indoor kennel. There she will be safe and warm, and can't make a mess. Most likely if she needed to go to the bathroom, she would whine and wake you up anyway.

If she is having persistant vomiting and diarrhea, she needs to be examined by a vet, she could have some sort of parasite, or worms, or something more serious. The sooner it is addressed, the sooner it can be fixed.

Everyone makes mistakes when they first get a puppy. I learned the hard way about many things, potty training, what foods to feed, what treats NOT to feed....there is so much to learn. While a lot of these posts sound harsh, everyone is just trying to look out for the health and welfare of your pup. Please review what people have said, do some research on boxers for yourself, and do what is best for your dog.

Don't get mad just do some research so you know, Hawaii would be great but you will have the opposite problem, they don't like it much better when it's really hot, when I got Sadie...We had a hot spell here in Seattle that year 80's and 90's she was sick from the heat couldn't stay out side long I had fans running all over the house to keep her cool. people are really honest here and love there babies very much as I'm sure you do to

Just to add to what has already been said, have you taken Kona to the vet in an effort to figure out what is causing her diarreah and vomiting?

It could more than likely be her food, but there could be a far more serious cause. Banishing her to the outdoors is not going to solve her problem. Flint River Ranch is a pretty decent food, however I would choose not to feed it, due to the high levels of wheat alone (which is a very common allergen to dogs).

Good luck - I really hope you can get her to a vet and take care of her illness. Irrespective of that, she *really* needs to be indoors.

I'm sorry if you took the advice you received as mean spirited. I'm sure it was not meant that way. I think what these people are trying to tell you is that Boxers are not "out in the backyard" dogs and it does not matter if you live in Colorado, Hawaii, Texas or anywhere else. When I was doing my research on Boxers that was the first thing I learned. Being a responsible dog owner is the same thing as being a responsible parent.
Have you taken her to the vet to see why she has these symptoms? I can see the food messing with the bowls but why the vomiting? I sincerely hope you take what everyone has said seriously and get that precious baby out of the cold! :confused:

If we can't convince of the importance of keeping your dog in the house, at least provide the dog a warm place to go. Install a dog house heater in the dog house. Maybe than she will use it. There are lots of websites that offer heaters specifically for dog houses.
