I live in Southern SD so we are a little warmer than the Rapid City area. I would never leave my dog outside in the Spring. It gets so cool here year round. Obviously these breeders have no idea what they are doing, even if they have their dogs in a heated barn. Boxers need to be around the family, if they have too many dogs to keep them inside then they are probably breeding for money, not for the right reasons. Their vet sounds like a total idiot and they should be getting a new one. Right now its the middle of the afternoon and its only 34 degrees out. Its not even freezing outside but my dogs would be shivering in 5 minutes if they were left outside. You can agree with the "breeders" and their "vet", but I would take a long look at some of the information we have provided for you.
p.s. If you are starting to think that you got Kona from a BYB, its ok to admit it, many of us have gotten dogs from these type of people before we knew what they were all about. The best thing you can do now is to start taking care of her properly.
Also, congrats on your "skinkid". You will be amazed at how well they will get along and become the best of friends. As I am sure you know, Boxers and Kids go hand in hand.
I myself, only have a boxer baby! (i have to say, when I first saw it/heard it, the term "skin kid/child" kinda creeped me out! LOL)
