Kofi has allergies...

having a pet store boxer and knowing all that I have learned I guess it could have ended up worse, but, last week after an $170 trip to the dermatologist, i found out that kofi (age 2) has allergies... he prescribed 25 mg of benadryl (2x a day) for two months along with fish oil and gold bond medicated powder... as it's probably enviornmental allergies, it will be very difficult to find the allergen she's allergic too...

oh well, i'm not too too upset but i just don't like the idea of keeping her on benadryl for two months...

Benadryl will help stop the itching, but it won't solve the problem. I would seek out the advice of a holistic vet.

Not just dog store problems. Our Ella just turned 1 year old 2 days ago and she has teribble allergies. My GF is a vet tech and we got a free allergy test that would run clients around $400+. Turns out ella is not allergic to environmental allergies we expected, but instead, well let's see.......

lamb
fish
seafood
pork
venison
turkey
and on and on.......
Basically, what it comes down to is she is allergic to anything with protein including her favorite snack, Peanut Butter. I feel awful. She is ALWAYS itching at herself and chewing at her feet. Benadryl does nothing and neither did the allergy med, can't remember the name, that we tried. We are getting her some vegetarian food product and crossing our fingers that will help. One of the vets also recommended a steroid shot to try and stop the inflamation. Poor girl has scratched most of the hair off the back of her ears and a few months ago actually chewed a small cut in her foot. It's almost unbearable to watch her constantly scratch, trying to stop her from doing it knowing how bad she feels.

Krose has allergies too but not that bad. Lamb and rice food des the trick.
