Kirby throws up!

My 4 month old boxer, loves his food, as I am sure they all do!! We are feeding him 2 1/2 cups daily. At first we were feeding him it all at once, with warm water to soften the kibble. He would inhale his food, then throw up. We decided to break it down to half a cup 3 times daily, again with water (we believe this helps him digest it better) Unfortunatly he still throws up the odd time, and when he does it's whole kibble. I heard that you can give them yogurt, would this help? Do I use plain yogurt? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I know this breed is suposed to be lean, the vet says he is perfectly healthy. I just don't want him to be hungry!!! Please help!!

Try skipping the water . He may be eating to fast and if it is dry it may make him take more time in eating. The 3 meals a day is good and at his age is a minimum for a schedule as they digest very fast and have small stomachs. Keep thsat up until 6 months than switch to 2 times per day.

Yogurt is great for overall health (and gas problems) and only plain unsweetened yogurt with live bacteria (probiotics). 1 tablespoon per day is good.

I'd skip the water too. Your pup is 4 months and there is no reason to add water to the kibble. Mostly it's best to do that to get the kibble soggy when they are young puppies. Try the yougurt, or put a toy in with the food so he has to eat around it it causes them to eat slower, less chance for throwing up from eating too fast

i had a boxer that threw up, discovered she had swallowed a baby`s rubber feeding top, but she was throwing up about 1/2 to 1 hour after eating

Beau did the same thing until I switched him to the large bites formula of his food. I guess he was just swallowing it whole and it was coming right back up. You could always mix his food with a canned formula if you really think his food needs to be softened. Otherwise, I'd suggest splitting his food into 3 feedings since he is still so young.

Actually the hard food may be better because it massages the gums and helps to clean the teeth at the same time.

Ozzie used to inhale his food and throw up. I took him to the vet to get checked out. The vet said he was eating too fast. He recommended spreading his food out into a single layer on a cookie sheet or putting a can in the middle of his bowl...forcing him to eat slower. So we put a tomato paste can minus the label in his bowl and he hasn't thrown up since.

I have the same problem with 17 week old Rex ( fawn male ). We have him and big sis Riley on Canidae kibble and both of their coats are beautiful. I hate to switch them off of the food, but he throws up after eating, and then he will sometimes throw up hours after eating and will generally do it on the rug. Riley does the same thing but not as often, she does throw up in her mouth but swallows it..............im wondering if a food change is in order, but its not good to do that too often,,,any ideas?

If your dogs like the Canidae and they have no allergies to it then I wouldn't change. Canidae is a good quality food. Your dogs may be eating too quickly like the original poster's. If it were me I'd try to spread their food out on a towl or something hard to make them eat slower or add a toy or large object to their food dish to make them eat around it will slow them down some. I know when our two eat at the same time sometimes it turns into a race to see who gets done first and that's no good for their belly either.
