Maybe you can find a homeopathic vet with a natural approach to health care who will support and advise you on BARF and titers.

Grrrr. Vets really make me mad sometimes. I live in the city with the *only* vet college in Western Canada. It is VERY competitive to get in. You have to have an 85% average to get an interview. Most candidates don't get in with less than a 90% average on their university courses. Anyway, it is so competitive that when they get accepted these people turn into super-duper dog-gods or something. A lot of them have the "better-than-thou" attitude and talk down to their clients as though the rest of the world is too dumb to pick up a textbook or search the web. Sheesh. Don't they realize they are never going to help anyone by being condescending? I went thru the same thing with my vet. She said BARF was terrible but couldn't tell me why! Now tell me who hasn't done their research!

Well I will be a new boxer owner in about 2 weeks and I did alot of research on ACE especially ( I was thinking of cropping my pups ears). Hopefully this link will help you understand more why ACE should not be used on boxers.

In reference to the vet situation I would find another vet. Especially now that you might doubt your vet due to what happen, I think that you should find a vet that is very informative on the Boxer breed and that loves them just as if they were their own children.

You will need to put alot of time into finding a new vet but it is well worth it; knowing that everytime you take your pup there they will be getting the best possible treatment.

Remeber good things come to those that are patient.

I've checked into a holistic vet & the closest one is atleast 2 hours away. Is it worth it to go so far?? What benefits can they provide to me & the dogs, other than support for BARF? I HATE living in the middle of nowhere :mad: I already drive 30 minutes to my vet because he's "SO" good. There's 3 in my town & only 1 I would trust but I just don't know what to do.... I wish I would have went to vet school like I had planned...but no, I just had to meet my boyfriend & not go because of him :mad:

:( So sorry to hear about this. Makes one wonder... I took my Sophie in for her spay yesterday and told them about this drug. They do not use it ordinarily, but they wrote it down on Sophies chart to NEVER use it on her and highlighted it. They also wrote it down in her Shot and treatment record that I keep here at home. That way if I ever happen to be traveling and need to see an emergency vet...there it will be! We are so lucky to have good "listening" vets. I pick up Sophie this morning am so anxious as I miss her so much.

You can have both a holistic vet and a regular vet :D Your holistic vet you can talk to about diet and titers. And only go to her every once in a while if something comes up and titers are done once a year. Then you can have a closer vet who you can get to if something urgent arises. What the conventional vet says to you about diet or what ever I have just learned to let it go in one ear and out the other. I try not to stress over it very much

Good luck finding a vet who respects what you want for your babies--but in response to another thing you said about wanting to go to vet school - it's never too late! If you still want to you should do it! Take a bio class at a comm. college nearby or even online to see if you're still into studying and school and all of that. Sometimes our lives feel like they are set in the direction we're going--but if you want to there is no reason you can't change that.

I would NOT ever trust a vet that would not let me be in the exam room with my dog. I can understand when they take them in the back for weighing or something like that but I would really have to wonder why I couldn't be there.

My friend has a Rottie who is HUGE but is even better behaved and more gentle than my boxers - please don't tell my girls I said that - anyway she took him to the vet who immediately muzzled him and was very cold in how he dealt with the dog. They called in the vets assistant and even mildly sedated him before doing the exam. Poor guy was shocked and scared through the whole exam. My friend was in tears and after she left was furious - needless to say she has another vet now. I can understand being a bit fearful of a large dog but come on thats ridiculous!
