Ya I did consider that at first but i didnt like the idea of having him cooped up in a pen. He is never in a crate or anything like that. when i leave to work he is always outside in my big back yard with a 6' fence surrounding it. I just dont know how he would take it.

Having him cooped up in a pen is a lot safer than leavin him outside all day. And they do take them out for walks at boarding places. What makes you sure some stray dog wont go into your yard while you are gone? Or someone wont find out that your leaving him outside and go and take him? What if someone decides they dont like your dog, and throws something in your yard for him to eat and get sick and possibly die from? There are a lot of what ifs, and your better safe than sorry.

ya you have some good points there. to be honest with ya. I was raised on a huge ranch. Had many dogs in my life. When i purchased my house its in a urban area, where you have to worry about other dogs and people doing crazy things. Charlie is the first dog i have had here. I really do appreciate your ideas. I know one thing you people here know alot more things about boxer and i will ever know . I really do take your advice to heart. The most important thing to me is the safety of my beloved Charlie. Oh one more thing. definately the next time we go on vacation I will do some research and find a good boarding place. When i had purchased the trip for us to leave i didnt have charlie. I should of did some research a few weeks ago. i guess i was so busy taking care of him and getting him back into shape from him being a stray, to think of me leaving. to tell you the truth i forgot all about it till a week ago my wife reminded of the darn trip. I took it for granted that my dad would take him over to his house and take care of him while i was gone. But that turned out not to be the case. for sure i will look into boarding him at a good place. Your are very right in saying that it would take alot of worry off you even though he is crated, but he would safe.
