kind of nervous

Just got my boxer pup about a month ago. we had a trip planned and purchased to mexico way before i got charlie. we are going to be gone a 9 days. im really worried about him because he always goes inside at night. i have his doghouse with plenty of warm bedding. my dad is coming over in the morning and feeding him. i also have the neighbor kids coming over and cleaning the backyard everyday. im just worried that he wont get the same attention and playtime i give him everyday. will being gone that long effect him alot?

Sorry to say but I would definately not leave my puppy outside and alone for 9 days.... Anything could happen!!!! What if there´s a sever thunderstorm or a heat wave coming through? You can read on a lot of places on this board that a boxer is an inside dog...Although you have people coming over it is not fair to a him...

Can´t you get somebody to take him? Otherwise I suggest sending him to a kennel but he might be to young, we had to wait til Buster was 6 months. Maybe you could ask the breeder if she could take him for 9 days, I think she might say yes to that, or try to ask if someone here on this board is willing to keep him for you!!!!

I would really consider staying home with my pup, but that is me.... Hope you can work something out!!! Please don´t leave him outside.

What if you posted in the Reciprocal Boxersitting forum to see if there is anyone near you (what part of WA are you in?) who could take care of your baby while you are gone?

I wouldn't want to leave my pup alone in the yard either. Will your Dad not take him home with him? You could always get a pet sitter to look after him too. Too bad you weren't in Vancouver. I would look after him for you. Try posting in the Reciprocal Boxer Sitting forum.

I would have to agree with the above. I get nervous when I'm actually IN the house and Asia is outside (at my parents, they have a big backyard and lots of dogs - and even though I know they're fine, I look outside constantly to make sure I can see her at all times), therefore, I couldn't imagine leaving her outside for nine days.

I recommend finding someone else to keep your pup. Like everyone else has said, try the Boxer Sitting forum ...

please dont leave your pup outside. chloe and maxi are 5 and 10 and im still with them outside, anything can happen, call your vet and ask him/her to recommend a place to board your baby most of the vets do it. ask a neighbor you can trust to dogsit or a relative for that matter. boxers are not outside dogs anyway they prefer the house since they are sensitive to heat and cold.hope you find somewhere for your baby.

ya i know i hate it. im going to ask the neighbor kids. well there not kids there 16 and 18 years old. maybe they would like to house sit. there good kids. that way he will be able to come in at night. thanks guys for your advice!!

I hope that you can get those kids to watch your pup for you. Most of my neighbor kids would love to make a little money, and they love to play with dogs, so I bet your neighbor's kids would jump at the chance to do both. There are too many things that can happen even to an adult dog alone outside, but a puppy that young is pretty much defenseless. Good luck.

Well I talked to the kids. they said they would watch the house and let him in at night and take care of him. the only reservation i have is that they wont wake up in the morning at let him out to goto the bathroom. i usually let him out around 7am in the morning. Everybody knows how teenagers are when there on summer break. i just dont want to have him go to the bathroom inside by accident because he never has had one. just dont want to start a bad habit. Might just have to drill it in there heads to get up and at least feed him and let him out in the mornings and then they can go back to sleep. well guys wish me luck. i already told my wife and daughter, next years vacations is including charlie!! . Guess im just a worry wart.

Have you considered boarding him? We typically go somewhere every 6 weeks, and boarding my female really takes the hassle (and worry) out or leaving for a trip!
