Please help me with an info you may have. My 11 month old Fawn Dexter is currently in the emergency pet hospital for kidney failure. This was a total suprise to us. He has never had any issues with this before and all blood work has always come up clean. On Sunday we noticed that Dext was sleeping a lot more then usual but he was still eatting and drinking. As of Tuesday morning he wasn't eatting and drinking so we took him into the vet. His kidney levels were high and our vet informed us he would need 24 hour care. He has been given fluids via IV and has a cath to monitor his urine output. As of today he has started eatting and is producing urine; he is more alert and not nearly as lethargic. We are waiting for his ultrasound to see what kind of shape his kidneys are in but are also not ruling out that it could be leptospirosis. Antifreeze has been ruled out. Does anyone have any experience with kidney failure? At the moment the vets are calling it acute renial failure but there is still a lot we don't know. We are heart broken and his sister, DeeDee doesn't understand where Dexter is. Please help this first time Boxer mom.

Other things besides antifreeze has glycol in it. Rudy was about 11 mos old when we found him lapping up still wet foam insulation which contains glycol. We took him to the vet hospital immediately and they kept him overnight and treated the kidneys and he was fine in a few days. Here's hoping for your baby recovering from his kidney failurevery soon.

Matt (the furrydaddy) couldn't sleep last night so he made a 2am hospital visit with frosty paws. The hospital has been amazing in that they have let us bring him some of his personal items and fun food. They even let his sister come see him. He has been eatting!!!! (YAY!) and producing a ton of urine (YAY!!!). He has his ultrasound today to look at the kidneys and new bloodwork to see if the kidneys restarted. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Dexter has come home today. YAY! His ultrasound showed 2 perfect kidneys with no damage and no signs of not being fully developed. His BUN level didn't drop as much as they wanted but it is on the way down. He is able to rest here at home without all the stress of the hospital. Tomorrow we go get more bloodwork done to see if his levels dropped. At this point they think (and I hope so I know what we are fighting) it's leptoseriosis, a NASTY bacteria that comes from Racoon urine. They say that it breeds in puddles; DON'T LET YOUR DOG GET INTO PUDDLES!!!! I'll post more then I know more. The outreach of support has been amazing! We thank you all so much for the prayers.
