First of all I spent over an hour last night reading several of the past threads on KC hoping to get enough info to figure out if that's what is going on with our babies...but I still have a few questions that I hope someone who has been thru this can answer for me...
Last weekend our daughters friends dog (just gotten from the pound) got loose and ended up outside our fence (gate) where both of our dogs were...ofcourse they were sniffing and licking one another before we could get him taken back home....fast forward to about 3-4 days later..Keno starts having a runny nose and coughing...then Daisy starts coughing & sneezing too...they both are still eating, drinking and playing as normal...last night we got some Robitussin DM and gave them each a tsp of that plus a tsp of honey....neither of them coughed anymore...but last night we noticed that you could actually hear Keno's congestion in his nose and at times in his chest too...THAT is what has me worried because I don't remember reading anything in the posts on KC about congestion....Is this normal? Also, we gave them both some chicken soup last night and Keno's came back up a couple of times..Daisy's stayed down but then she vomited grass and kibble in the middle of the night....All of this has me worried to death...it's Sunday and our vet is closed and we don't have the money to take them to the ER vet..
I am worried about Pneumonia (with Keno)...I don't hear the congestion this morning, but it seems that he is worse at night...
Is the congestion normal with the KC ? Also, they don't seem to be running a fever...Keno's nose is dry this morning, but his ears aren't hot or anything so I don't think he has a fever....

Thanks so much :(

Check out my thread and all the posts to it under Health issues " I need healing vibes for Shakria". This sounds exactly like what I have been through with Shakira. We are not sure if she had a seizure with this or if she just was so congested that she just passed out. She has had all the same symptoms as your Keno and she also was exposed to a new puppy. I had to rush her to emergency vets at 4:30 in the morning. She had woke me up at 2:00 Monday morning and her face was soaked from her nose and eyes and she was coughing and sneezing. She, too, had been just fine 12 hrs. earlier. The vet was not my normal vet as I couldn't get into them that early, but this vet was very good and after a full exam she said it was a severe upper respiratory infection and gave her Clavamox, 375mg and Hydrocodone tablets. I brought her home as they wanted to run more tests, I wanted my original vets to do that, so at 8:00 that morning she was off to my vets and they kept her all day. Shakira was running a fever and sounded just terrible. They did blood work and I got it back a couple of days later, high bacteria levels in the blood and that calculates to them pnemonia. I would say you should definately get Keno in to the vets. I have heard of this happening in a lot of boxers lately. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Thank you. I read your post about Shakira and it does sound like she had a lot of the same symptoms as Keno is experiencing...
He seems to be better today...no coughing and very little (if any) congestion so far...I believe it's at night when he seems the worse...the nasal drainage is still clear and he hasn't coughed up any phlem (altho I think it would be better if he were)...We called our vet at home this morning and he said that he's seen a lot of this type of illness going around lately..he said that most likely Keno (and Daisy) have a sore throat (hence the vomiting) and to give them soft foods like cooked eggs and cottage cheese (they both gobbled it right up)...and he wants to see them both tomorrow morning...oh he also said that they could have benedryl (which I put in with their cottage cheese)...
I just pray that Keno doesn't get to sounding(tonight) like he did last night because he really had me worried about him...he slept in our bed so I was able to keep a close eye on him all night (I got very little sleep ofcourse!)...
So anyway, we're going to try to hold off on seeing the dr until tomorrow morning (but if he gets like he was last night I don't think we're going to have much choice but to take him to the emerg vet)... :(

I'm sorry that Shakira was so sick but glad that she is now doing better and is on her way to a full recovery. Sounds like she had a good 1st b-day too (glad she was feeling well enough to be able to celebrate it!) ;)

Update on Keno (and Daisy)

Good thing is, it's not KC...but it is tonsilitis...Keno has it the worst (vet suspects Daisy is just now getting it)...they both got an antibiotic shot and were sent home with some meds...our vet said that they should be back to their old selves again in no time...and in the mean time they get to have yummy cottage cheese, rice and yogurt (I don't think they're going to complain tho  )

:)

That is a wonderful thing that it is tonsilitis and not pnemonia. I am sure they will enjoy their cottage cheese and yogurt maybe even some frozen yogurt for that sore throat. Shakira's throat was very raw and sore, someone mentioned frozen Pedialite pops and that worked great. Glad to hear that they are going to be fine, thanks for the follow up
