Kennel names

For the breeders out there (and future ones), how do you come up with a kennel name? How did you come up with yours? Do you go for what sounds good in the show ring or something that has meaning? or both .

Just about anything goes. Some people combine parts of their names. Some make it geographical. Mine is from a Star Trek book. :D Yup, I am a Trekkie.

Keep in mind that you don't want it to be too long. You want to be able to have fun with the rest of the name.

Mine is going to be Rocket Boxers and I have 2 reasons for picking it. My first show boxer, Star, was part of a launch litter (that was the name of the litter and they all had space themed names) - her name is Bluecollar's Starship Mercury. Then, my husband is building a plane called a F1 Rocket. So, it seemed appropriate that I use the name Rocket Boxers.

I didn't give any thought to what might sound good in the show ring - it was more what was catchy and had meaning for me.

Most seem to choose something that has a personal meaning and/or can follow a theme. Mine is Prizm Boxers. I choose that originally when I got my first show girl "Wicca's Prizm's Rainbo" - aka Raina because I had already picked out names for my next three puppies, all based on colors of the rainbow. That and my kennel logo shows a light beam bouncing off a boxer silhouette and breaking into a rainbow. Of course, when I lost Raina and got Charm I didn't follow my theme (too heartbroken at the time) but I had already chosen my kennel name so I stuck with it and Charmie is "Wicca's Charmed One at Prizm" and we'll go back to the color theme on her first litter.

It all depends on what interests you. But it can be lots of fun.
