Poor guy!! Give him our hugs. My sisters boxer puppy got it at about 8 weeks also from the vaccine breaking and i asked her, and she said about 2 weeks for good, but he will get better each day. She said after about a week he will just mainly cough after playing and early in morning and night.
Hope this helps

I know what it is like, it just breaks your heart to hear them cough, and you can't make it stop. I am so glad to hear he is getting better. He sure is a fighter. Hopefully this will be all the illness he will have for a long time

Not sure exactly which thread, but a search here on BW saved me time & $$$$ with a good home remedy...

2 drops of echinacea goldenseal / a day
2 drops of coiloidal silver
1000 mg of vitamin C
1-2 Tablespoon of raw honey

Loki cleared up within a week

Kennel cough can last awhile before getting completely over it. I have seen some dogs have continuing problems for 4-6 weeks, while others up to 3-4 months. (Depends upon the dog, the *strain* of KC they have, their own immune system, etc).

Antibiotics actually do nothing for the KC itself, but would keep it from going into a secondary type infection. Cough pills (or cough syrup) help some, and a vaporizer won't hurt. You can always check with your vet to see if they have a nebulizer. Its basically a breathing treatment they can do, but it does need to be done for 3-5 days in a row.

Both my girls had it a few months back. After starting the antibiotics, they showed great improvement within a few days, no symptoms after a week or two. :)

Sorry to hear that your dog has kennel cough. It can be a very frustrating and horrible time for you and your dog. Both of my girls just got over a bout of kennel cough. Shelby's only lasted for about a week, while Bailey's still fighting it off. (We are going on our 3rd week) I honestly did not see where the cough medicine really did a whole lot to relieve the cough. It may have broken up some of the congestion, but that is about it. Anyways, good luck and we are wishing you all a speedy recovery!!

How long is Kennel Cough contagious?

Our dog's symptoms are almost gone after only a week, but I'm wondering how long afterwards he'll be contagious. Anyone know? We want to start taking him out with us again! Thanks!
