I had posted about a month ago that my puppy had a cough and most thought it sounded kindof like kennel cough.

Well this has been going on now for 2 months and we are now on our 3rd round of antibotics. I'm not sure what the first one was. I know one was a steroid which we had to take her off because it was making her urinate in her cage everyday which she had never done before since we got her. Then they called in a medication to CVS which was a cough medicine. She has had 2 rounds of that. We had her on Clavamox for 7 days I am pretty sure it was 100 mg. She is now on 250 mg of Clavamox for 14 days and we will be done with that in a day. Her cough seems to be doing much better now. She occasionally has her time when she will still cough a little. The vet has taken chest x-rays of her and done a CBC (I think thats what it was called) and found that her white blood cell count was high and once complete with this next round she has to go back in for another blood test to check her white blood count. The vet is still calling this a bad case of kennel cough. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced kennel cough lasting for so long. The vet said the cough could last up to 4-6 months. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just read about the drinking alot of water but if she is on this many antibiotics this may be why shes drinking so much..the cough syrup could be drying her out..I would still ask the vet..Bubba, Bella and myself are sending healthy vibes to your baby!

Yeah I was wondering that also. If it wasn't all the medicine shes been on lately for the cough. She is no longer on any cough surpressant. The vet wanted to see how she would do without it. I will just keep watching her closely with both situations and hopefully the cough will stop soon. Thank you for sending the healthy vibes. We need it!!!

Conner's kennel cough lasted about a month and a half. Our vet put him on Clavimox right off the bat and I was giving him Robutissin DM. His symptoms started lessening about 2 weeks after the Clavimox completed. It's tough, but hang in there! I hope your baby is feeling better soon!

Yes, Conner was on Clavimox, not to cure his KC, but to prevent secondary infections. Thanks for clarifying that, sgbtab. My post was a bit misleading.

I would like to thank everyone for their response to my post. She finished up her antibiotics this morning. She has not coughed much since she has started coming to an end with the antibiotics. She usually only coughs if she is on her leash and she starts to play with our neighbors dog. When the vet said it could last up to 4-6 months that seemed way too long for me considering KC should only last a couple of weeks from what I have read. She has to go back for some blood work at the end of this week to check on her white blood cell count. So we will see what the vet says this time. Thanks again for all the responses!

We recently had KC - even though Chloe was vaccinated for it last October (and got all symptoms back then as well). We had 3 days of strong, awful sounding "old man cough", followed by 4 days of "granny cough" - and that was that.

We were at the vet's after the first night of coughing (it only started at night - but I had been through it before - so I wasn't about to wait any longer). The vet gave Chloe a 10 day supply of Chlor-1000 (not sure about the mg - but we had 3 giant horse pills a day)...

I feel for you and the poor pup - to have KC for so long must be awful...

Anyway, I also slighltly boosted Chloe's Vit. C and gave her honey - made me feel better...

We finished anitbiotics 2 days ago - and she's back to her crazy self! :D
