to get completely over it. My boxer got kennel cough about a month and a half ago. Even after she had been vaccinated. She doesn't cough anymore, but in the morning and evenings she tries to clear her throat and sometimes hacks up some phlem. Just curious as to if anyone has had this problem. The vet told me it can take months to fully recover.

It takes awhile for it to go away completely, but you should check with your vet to see if she needs a re-check.

I had a St. Bernard who had kennel cough, but I don't think it took more than a couple of weeks for him to recover. Make sure she is drinking lots of water.

Good luck

Kennel cough is to dogs what the common cold is to humans ;) That's why vaccinations aren't really effective - there are so many different strains of it. Also like humans, dogs can get a 'bad' dose of it or a milder one, and the time taken for recovery varies accordingly. I wouldn't expect him to have it for months - but a small amount of coughing after 6 weeks isn't that unusual. Just keep an eye on him, and if it gets any worse or isn't gone in the next 2-3 weeks, you might like your vet to check him over again.
