I've had Kendall since she was 6 weeks old. She's now 4yrs old and lately she's been attacking my dad's dog who she grew up with. She ripped his ear and tore out one of his teeth for no reason. I love her to death but I don't know if I could trust her with my 8 mo old baby or 6 yr old son. Just yesterday I put her out on the run (because she jumps the fence) and she broke her collar and the run cable trying to attack the mail man. I can't have her attacking someone, I would never forgive myself! I thought of finding her a home, but what if she hurt her new owner. A year ago she jumped the fence and chased a elderly lady that lives up the street! She's always been protective, but now she seems to be turning nasty. My husband told me last night that we're going to have to put her down if she keeps up. He doesn't want her near the kids or our other dogs. I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what I can do. I love her dearly, but I feel like I just can't trust her anymore. She's always been more aggressive than our other dogs, but now she's getting out of hand. What should I do????

Boy that must be scary! I don't know what to say to you, I have a neighbour who's dog attacks anyone and anything now he has to keep him muzzeled when outside. Maybe someone else would know what to do. I know your very concerned about your children and others, I hope you can work something out. Good Luck

Sudden changes in personality such as you describe can be an indication of medical problems.

Please take the dog to the Vet ASAP, tell them about the dog's recent behavioral changes and get a complete exam, including a check for brain tumors, etc.

Good luck.

This isn't new! She's always been a pretty aggressive dog even when little. She and my parents Boxer got a hold of a live chicken once and they pulled it apart! She ripped up my son's pet rabbit that got out of the hutch. Numerous chickens that have escaped from the pen. I think she's got a thirst for blood now and there's nothing I can do to stop it. With a litter she had she tried to bite one of her own puppies for sniffing her rawhide bone...........a 2 week old puppy. It's not medical, the vet told me that sometimes dogs just get worse, which he thinks is what's going on with her. I love her to death and if I could get her a home with no kids or other animals she may be fine. But............should I take a chance and hope she doesn't hurt her new owners.????

Training?

There has to be some behavior modifications that you can do with her. Has she been to obedience school? Maybe you could call a trainer and get their opinion as well. It's sad to hear that she's gotten so aggressive. :( I hope everything works out with her!

Good luck!

No, it can't be blood thirst. I don't believe there is such thing. Anyway, I noticed that you have other boxers also. How does she interact with them? Have you socialized this dog with humans and other dogs other than the family dogs? Any bad experience with strangers?

Training schools won't except her because she has went after other dogs!!!!! Like I said I've tried almost everything possible!!! She was raised with the dog that she attacked and she has lashed out at all of my other Boxers! I've had to keep her in a small containment area away from the other dogs because I'm scared she would hurt or even kill them!!! She nipped at Kylie my 9 week old, if I hadn't been prepared with her leash she could've killed her. She's bit Hunter, went after Jax and tore apart my dad's Lab mix Apollo!!!! If I thought there was a easy way to fix this problem I wouldn't even consider having her put down! Yes, she has tried to bite people. She nipped my ex-roommates best friend on the calf! She's come close to biting my 6 yr old son before when he got too close to her when she was eating! I'm at my wits end! I love her and she's wonderful with me, but I'm the only one that I don't worry about her hurting. She might be a small dog, but she's pulled me down before trying to chase people walking down the street! It's a unusual behavior for a Boxer, I've been around the breed all my life and she's shown aggression ever since she was about 4 mo old!!! The Vet has even advised that she be put down before someone or one of our other dogs gets seriously hurt! I guess I don't have many other options! I was just hoping maybe there was some sort of fix to the problem! Trust me I know how to deal with behavior problems for the most part........I have a son with ADHD, and it's a challenge, but this is even more of one! Thank you for all your help!

Has your vet checked her hormone levels? I don't know if this is similar, but a friend of mine has an Arabian mare. She is sweet, lovable and easy to handle. When she comes in heat, she becomes a total B#@$%$. She rears, strikes, bites, kicks and aggressively goes after you to inflict harm. I really think she would kill someone if she got the chance. When she's out of heat, she goes back to her pleasant self.
