Keeps shaking her head...

Hi all-

Riley has been going thru this allergic reaction thing for the last few weeks...we cleared up the rash and hives on her body, but her ears keep breaking out everyday. Her ear breakouts come and go...I'm thinking she has some sort of outside allergy (hopefully seasonal?!) because she breaks out as soon as we go outside to walk or play and they'll clear up inside. The vet has had her on a different antihistamine (chlorpheniramine) which worked to clear up her body rash. Her ears didn't even seem to bother her at all up until a few days ago. Now she's shaking her head a lot and itching them more. The rash looks about the same as it comes and goes. I don't know if she has developed a secondary ear infection from the allergies? Or if its just the allergies causing it?

My poor girl...lately if it hasn't been one thing, then its another! Any advice or experience with allergies causing an ear infection as well? The vet is costing me a fortune...any OTC remedies for possible ear infection? Her ears don't smell bad or yeasty or look any dirtier than usual as I've heard that they can with an infection.

A dog will shake its head frantically when they have ear mites. Best Ican remember I think they are visible though maybe not.

We went to the vet this am and she had a yeast infection in her ears as a result of the allergies. Problem solved!

My fist boxer was allergic to corn, we did not know it until he did the shaking the head. Also, his ears swelled like Dumbo. Did your baby's ears swell? What did they give you for the yeast infection?

The vet gave me some ointment for Riley's ears..."panalog" I think its called. She told me to flush out her ears once a day and put the ointment in 2x a day for 10 days. Her ears aren't swollen - just rashy and hivey looking. I don't know if she's having environmental allergies or food allergies, but today I went and bought a bag of Fromm's Duck & Potato to try out with her.
