Just wondering.......Do Boxers bark?

Buddy didn't bark when we first got him either. We got him at the end of June and he did not bark until the end of October, Halloween Night. Every time the doorbell rang and he heard trick or treat he barked. From that day on he has only barked when someone is at the door or if he hears a strange noise. He will give a little bark if he is outside and wants in. All of the other dogs living around us bark a lot. Buddy never gets involved he just minds his own business. Having just recently moved in to this neighborhood it has been easy for Buddy to be accepted by the neighbors. They all comment what a nice dog he is, so quiet, never barks unless something is wrong. I honestly do not believe that Boxers are excessive barkers. Now if they could talk that might be another story. With Halloween coming up you have the perfect opportunity to teach your dog to bark if he hasn't already done so. It is so exciting the first time you hear their bark. It's almost like when you hear your baby say their first word.

I adopted my girl Greta a year or so ago, she was 10 at the time andher former owners said she barked occasionaly. Well it took her almost 8 months before she decided to bark, and it wasn't even at my house! We were at my In-Laws home, my Father in-Law had passed away :( and there were strange people in and out all day. She barked and barked every time someone knocked at the door all week. She still gets "noisy" when we visit my in-laws house and she only barks very rarely at our own house!

 

[Boxer Crazy]

I didn't hear Keisha bark until she was at least 6 months old maybe even older. Travis on the other hand seemed to start barking as a pup of only a few weeks and has been barking ever since. They usually only bark when someone comes on the property or to the door, or a dog walking on "THEIR" street. Riley (chihuahua) usually starts and the others join in. Travis used to bark up a storm when we left him in his crate until he got used to it.
I think you are quite lucky that you have a quiet dog.

Hardy barks....Oh yeah...especially at night, just when you are drifting off to sleep! He also will yip loudly if it is 'unfair'. He barks at dog training too.

Laurel only ever barks at children. She hasn't ever barked at anything else in her life. Children are a novelty, I think...

But compared to other neighbourhood dogs, ours are really quiet.

I have a 3 month old female boxer and she barks at my cats and even me sometimes. She also barks at her toys, very similar to what Brooklyn Dan had said. She's also got a loud yet sharp bark. She also doesn't even bark at anyone or the door or anything, just toys, cats and my mom and dad's dogs. She's so cute though, I hope she tones it down a bit as she gets older.

Hi All!

Derek, like many of your dogs only barkd when there was a knock. Ty on the other hand was very smart. So we taught him not to bark. Everytime he would bark we would say "no, Wooo!! Woooo!!" So he caught on tho Wooo! woo at the door. It was such a sight to see Derek barking and Ty howling!! LOL Ty would look at us like " Hey, he is barking!?!? Why can't I?" but he kept on howling. I was so cute. The way his lips curled.

To teach your dog to bark at the door, try barking your self. He might just catch on.

we have had to train all three boxers to bark... we did it quite successfully with the afor mentioned "who's here" method ;-) !!!!!! We have even trained Cooper to ring a bell at the door when he wants out because he will not bark when he wants to go outside to potty! My neighbours have two shelties and nothing against them.. but they never seem to stop barking! Let's be thankful! Gillian

Zoey is really quite vocal. She barks when she wants to play with Spunky(beagle) and when she sees the other neighborhood dogs. She also barks when the doorbell rings.
