Tucker's_mom
Super Boxer
Let me start this by saying we're putting a privacy fence in next month, but in the meantime Tucker has a tie out that we put him on whenever he goes outside to potty. We have never left him on the tie out unsupervised. In fact I stand in the door and wait for him to do his business, just so I can keep an eye on him.
Now to the real story...
Yesterday when I got home from work, arms LOADED with groceries, I see a note from the cleaning service that cleans my house. I'm reading along fine, until I get to the last sentence, "You're pup is outside". I about layed an egg right there. I dropped all of the groceries where I was standing and ran out back. Tucker was on his tie out totally wrapped around the air conditioner!! Thank God it's a new air conditioner and not even hooked up yet. He was fine, but I was furious. I had no idea how long he'd been out there and had no water to boot!! I also found his little name tag on the steps with the ring gone (more on this to come!)
I came inside all upset and there's a knock at my front door. It was my neighbor from two doors down. She told me she could hear Tucker barking around lunch time and then her daughter came in from playing in their yard WITH TUCKER!! He was loose and running around out in the street. She came over to my house (her daughter knows Tucker, she's a frequent playmate) and no one was home, so she took him back to her house for awhile. She knows approximately when I get home, so she brought him back and hooked him back up to his tie out so I wouldn't freak out that he wasn't there.
The cleaning girls had hooked his chain to the ring that holds on his name tag instead of to the D-ring on his collar. Tucker had gotten the tie out stuck around a tree root poking out of the ground and when he was pulling to get un-stuck he broke the ring that his tags were on. So now he's wandering free. Thank god he didn't get hit and thank god the neighbors saw him and knew who he belonged to!!
I called the manager of the company and went crazy on him. When we got Tucker I called the office and left specific instructions for the cleaning crew (it's always the same one). I said it was fine for them to put him outside (as long as the weather's nice, in the basement if it's not) while they were there, so long as they put him back in his crate before they left. He has a tendancy to bark at the vacuum cleaner and it can get annoying. I also left a note (with the same instructions on it) the first week along with some extra cash for them for their time. To make matters worse, my friend comes over in the mornings to let him out and feed him breakfast and when she was leaving the cleaning girls were getting there and she told them the same thing, it was ok to put him out for awhile, but to make sure to put him back in his crate before they left.
The manager was really simpathetic and told me he would give the girls a sound scolding, but that just wasn't enough for me. How do you explain to someone that I feel about my puppy the same way I'd feel about a human baby (if I had one). I ended up getting yesterday's cleanging for free, which comes out of their paychecks. But as far as I'm concerned, they're through. I can't believe they left a 3 month old puppy outside in the middle of the day with no water. What kind of idiot does that!?!?!? I was just dumbfounded.
The good news is Tucker was fine, with the exception of being thirsty. He sat with me all night and I just cuddled him to pieces. Probably more than he liked, but hey!, I was one stressed out mom and very thankful that everything was ok.
Thanks for letting me vent. Nobody out here in my "regular life" seems to understand why I was so upset. This is such a wonderful place to go when you need advise, are feeling down, or just need to get something off your chest. I love it here in BoxerWorld!!
