Just Started!

Just thought I'd let you all know that Miss Roxie and I have enrolled in Puppy School (Training). Had our first non-dog class today. I think we will be having alot of fun.

Lennox and I are half way through our first set of obedience level one classes and its great! We both enjoy it very much Great way to socialize your dog to other people and of course dogs.

Don't have many opportunities for obedience training here (small rural town). But they are having one in September (she will be 6 months old by then) and we have put Ruby and I on the list.

I’ve never liked school much… I was always an independent learner so I just bought a few books and taught Xena myself. People are always asking me where I went to get her trained and how much I paid. I spent about $100 in books and I can’t count how many hours for her “home schooling”. She is a city dog so the socialization part of her training, I couldn’t avoid if I tried.

I had Samson signed up for obedience training, but he was doing very well learning on his own. I read a lot of books about how to properly train a dog, and my boyfriend was able to be with him all day every day after his motorcycle accident. He is very well trained by us, I dont think a professional would have done much better. It helps that he is a very quick learner.

Scrapper has been going since he was five months old. I mean, we have to miss a class every now and then because something comes up, but it's been almost three years now. He loves to go. When I say, "Do you want to go to your class?" he starts leaping and jumping in excitement. Plus, the same people come all the time, so you start to get to know your classmates; they are hard core obedience people, working on their CDs, CDX, UD, UDX etc. They are really helpful and I have learned a lot. But we are the only Boxer in a world of goldens and schnauzers!
