NW Dharma

Boxer Pal
My wife and I just joined Boxerworld and wanted to introduce ourselves. I suppose a little history would be in order. About 4 years ago my wife and I rescued a beautiful female fawn boxer by the name of Dharma. She was 6 months old when we first saw her, and we knew there was no way to resist her cute face. So she took us home with her. She had all of the wonderful boxer traits we have read about on Boxerworld. She was an all-star woo-woo singer and she could kidney bean with the best of them. Unfortunately she had reoccuring bouts of pancreatitis. We had her on a special diet and made sure she never got into anything that might set it off. About 4 months ago she had a horrible attack of pancreatitis. We took her to the vet and they tried everything they could to help her through it. She was so strong through the whole ordeal. She was under 24 hour a day care for 7 days, however her values would not drop back to normal. Her spirit was willing but her body could not keep up. She went on to the Rainbow Bridge on May 10, 2003. She was an amazing girl. This was devastating for both my wife and I. She was our baby and we miss her every single day. It was hardest on my wife who was 8 months pregnant at the time. It is impossible to put into words how much she meant to us. She made us better people for having had the pleasure of her company for 3 1/2 years.
Sorry this introduction is so long. We enjoy reading all of your posts, they help to remind me of our beautiful girl. We look forward to reading more of them in the future.

Welcome to the group. How sad that your Dharma had to go through all that suffering. You both are to be commended for staying with her through it all. Someday maybe Lucas will have a little boxer brother or sister when he's older :) Well - glad to have you all here...

Thank you for sharing your story, Ryan. The love remains long after our dogs have left us. It's so difficult, though. My Sullivan is on extended time with his lymphoma. When I feel sad I remind myself, "I'm so glad you've been a part of my life." Makes me grateful and happier. No matter how much pain we feel with their loss, I would choose to go through it all for the love our dogs give us. God bless and welcome.

Welcome to Boxerworld! We share our joys and pain here, and I am very sorry you lost your precious Dharma! I just lost my lab mix, Pepper, on 7/28/03, so I know how much it hurts to lose a furkid!

Hopefully, you will get another boxer someday!

Hello Neighbor

Welcome to Boxerworld! We live in Seattle and hope to go to one of Portland's monthly Boxer Play Days this fall. Diego is a 3 y/o black faced brindle male and is my first boxer and dog! I appreciate sharing your story because it's a constant reminder that life is precious and treasure the time we have to love those around us.

Welcome to boxerworld. It's amazing how they can touch our lives even if it is for a short period of time. Sorry to hear she passed on. Are you considering getting another boxer? Thanks for sharing your story.:)

Hi and Welcome to Boxerworld!
So sorry for your loss of Dharma... I know she's in good company with the rest of our wonderful babies at the bridge.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. We are thinking about getting another boxer soon. We thought about rescuing another but we really wanted to experience a boxer puppy. And it is rare to find a puppy for rescue. The major issue is affordability. We just had a baby and don't have the money to buy one from a reputable breeder. And I would never consider a backyard breeder or pet store so I have a bit of a dilemma.
