I just went on that website. I am totally freaked out. Although, I must say I did have to laugh at some of the stories. Now I know I'm not crazy. I didn't realize how many people are afraid of those things. We dont' have any dangerous spiders around her (at least I hope we don't). Our weather is not warm enough for them. Thank God.

The saga continues...

Just got back from the Emergency Vet. Rocky vomited bile earlier today, his hives started getting worse again, and the schlera (white part) of his right eye was swollen. I checked his gums and they seemed pale, so we took him there ASAP. They check his eye to make sure the cornea was not scratched (it wasn't) and gave him a shot of steroid. They gave him some sub-cutaneous fluids and sent us home with prednisone tablets for the next several days. The vet said these symptoms were still due to the spider bite and that if we keep up with the meds that Rocky will be great in a couple of days. He looks better already. I'll keep you all posted.

That happened once to Eve, she got hives and her eyes and nose swelled up, it was late in the evening so I gave her some benadryl and kept an eye on her, it decreased shortly after the benadryl so I never took her in to the vet, I didnt wanna go to the emergency unless the benadryl didnt work. After a couple hours everything was fine. She had been outside (it was the summer) and I think she got bit by something.

It is nice to hear your baby is doing better. I just hate to read posts that they are feeling bad. It must be a scarry thing when they swell up and you don't know why. You are such a great parent for taking care of him. Keep getting better Rocky.

Max had something very similar happen last year. It seemed like all of a sudden one side of his face was swollen about an inch larger than normal. We immediately called the after hours vet, who told us to try the Benadryl because that was all he would do (we have since switched vets) and I took him in the next morning. The vet said that it was a spider bite and nothing else ever came of it. I know it seems very alarming, but it's probably not as bad as it looks.

Just to let everyone know, Rocky is doing great today. He had a peeing accident last night, but I know it was only because of being on prednisone and from the sub-cutaneous fluids they gave him. He was sleeping in the bed next to us and started leaking a little, then jumped up and started to go on the floor, but I was able to stop him part way through and take him outside to finish. He had to go very badly and I understood.

He is doing great today, back to his usual self. :) I think I figured out what kind of spider bit him. I had seen one last Monday night and didn't get to it in time to kill it, but that is the only one I'd seen around the apartment, so I'm pretty sure it was the same one. It's called a Yellow Sac spider and the bite is comparable to that of a Brown Recluse supposedly. They look harmless, but apparently they aren't! Here is the type I believe bit Rocky: http://www.pestcontrolmag.com/pestcontrol/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=42129

No, I am unable to tell where the bite is. His left eye was the most swollen the day it happened, but the schlera of the right eye became swollen yesterday. I am thinking it was somewhere on his face close to his left eye.
