A friend of mine with two st. bernards went two years fixing their tree every night they got home. They were animals! Knocking it over then climbing all over it. My friend went another year without a tree altogether because of the pups.

He fixed it by hanging the tree from the ceiling! It was actually kinda cool. They had plenty of room for the presents and the tree was left in one piece.

If you are into a goofy tree, hanging it is always an option!

We have had so many trees knocked over and climbed. I had a cat who was addicted to popcorn and he drug all the strings off and many of the ornaments too. We never put anything breakable on the bottom. We have tied the tree to nails in the woodwork with twine, doesn't look too good, but it helps from being knocked over. Of course we can never put a tree in front of the window like normal people. Thank God SuzyQ at 6 yrs has pretty much lost interest in the tree. However, hubby bought me one of the deer figures that lights up and moves his head back and forth. I decided to put it inside by the patio door, the first time SuzyQ ran to the door to look outside and realized that this thing was moving his head she barked at him. Took her a while to accept the new member of the family.

Get yourself an early Christmas present--an x-pen (exercise pen). They come in all different heights and accordian fold up so when company comes over you can just fold it up and whisk it out of sight. We used an x-pen around the tree the first christmas with our pup. It solved the problem perfectly. We had no emergency trip to the vet for intestinal blockage and I didn't have to have a tree that was "naked" on the lower half. The second christmas she didn't have any interest in the tree but my 3 year-old son still did, so we used the x-pen that year too.

Wow! what a great idea! You could even spray paint it first to keep the festive look. Definately something I will be thinking about.

puppy accidents

Yes I am so excited for the holiday season to come and it isnt the first time we have had to deal with someone or something trying to take down our tree prematurely !! LOL This year we have 3 children the youngest 10 months and a very large cat who likes to stretch himself up the tree and take things he should not and now our newest baby Jaxyn who is now almost 5 months will be 6 come christmas!! It just takes alot of patience and No No's I am not quite so worried him taking the ornaments or the tree down on purpose as I am him playing fetch in the house or some other fun puupy game he invents on his own like toss the stuffy in the air which he does on his own and catches it and tosses it again and taking the tree out on accident. I forsee a bigger mess that way.

Oh the laughs this year

This is exactly what we did Rolen's first Christmas too! :) Last year we didn't have to use it, he wasn't as interested in the tree!

We haven't had a tree since we got Oscar, but I like the x-pen idea. I think it would work for Oscar, but Mali? Maybe yes, maybe no...

Keep cotton balls handy...

I learned on Boxerworld many years ago to keep "real" cotton balls (not the synthetic kind)handy at Christmas time ... If your animal accidently ingests glass ball pieces....dip real cotton balls in milk and feed them to them... it's supposed to coat the pieces as they go thru the digestive system. ?? Anyone else heard of that?

smashicon on wood we've never had a problem with the dogs and the Christmas tree. I tend to put the unbreakable ornaments at tail (or butt level for boxers) so that they aren't accidently sending the glass ones flying! Bella has always either been kept in a different room or crated when we aren't home so there hasn't been the temptation of destroying it out of boredom.
