Hello all I just got my Zion Purina Beneful for puppies and so far so good but I was just wondering if this is a good food for a puppy or is there a better one I might pick up instead?

Actually Beneful is one of the worst foods out there, I'm sorry to say. But at least you're finding this out now. It is full of low quality fillers, carcinogenic preservatives and food colorings, and other ingredients that should not be found in any pet food, such as sugar and corn. Corn is the main ingredient in this food, and the second ingredient listed (which as far as I can see is the only named "meat" product) is chicken by-product, which basically means "every part of the chicken except for the meat."

Here's a full review on the food:

Because your pup is young it's very doubtful that you would notice any "problems" on the food so early; it wouldn't be until farther down the road that you might begin to see health issues such as poor skin and coat, bad teeth, and various other problems. You can check this website for more reviews and ratings on food in order to find something more suitable for your pup. :)

I have to second what Caney Creek said. Beneful is nasty stuff. I am not saying you need to throw out the bag, but when you're done I would definitely choose a higher quality food. ;)

It was suggested to me to go to dog food analysis and check out the different brands to find a good dog food. I found that the site was very helpful. It really made me take a look at what would be a good dog food. Very informative. Check it out! It will be worth it!

Do you have a PetSmart or PetCo, Tractor Supply any kind of local feed store or hay store? Many of those types of places carry decent brands of dog food. PetSmart has Blue Buffalo, PetCo carries Wellness, Natural Balance, and Solid Gold, and the feed stores and hay stores many times have some of the healthier foods. Don't think about grocery stores and discount stores, think feed stores, grain stores, hay supplies, you can also choose one of the foods and look for it in your area on their website. For example chicken soup food you go to their product website and click on find in stores or soemthing like that put in your zip code and it tells you local areas that sell it. I was very surprised to find stores I didn't even know existed in my area.

Thank you all, i don't think we have those stores here though I just found this little shop that sells Orijen and Eagle Pack. Orijen is too expensive for me right now since one small bag is like 30 bucks. So I thought of the Eagle Pack checked it out on dogfoodanalysis but wasn't recommended should I just go with cooking Zion his own food? If so any good recipes for puppies he only has five weeks now. I'm still feeding him that beneful thing food hope his tummy doesnt gets upset hes so small.

thx in advance

Eagle Pack is definitely better than Pedigree, but you can also make him his own food if you would like to do so. Is he really only 5 weeks old?? That is VERY young to be away from his mother already. Usually pups are kept with the litter until 8 weeks.

There is a homecooking forum here that you can search through, or post a new thread in to find out more about preparing meals for your pup.
