Not sure if this is the right section to put this but I was just wondering, at what age do puppies start to be more independent, to where they don't follow your every move, need to be on top of you while your sitting, needing you to sit by them for them to fall asleep (may just be Venus). I think we've completely spoiled Venus! I just want to see if these are normal behaviors or if she's just a spoiled lil puppy. If she's spoiled, how can I "unspoil" her? I love her cuddling and all, but I just don't think a 60+ lb boxer sitting on me will be good in the long run. haha.

Thanks!

If you let them to sit on your lap and get on your furniture or bed, it has been my experience that they always will. But they do become more independent as they mature and become more sure of themselves. I think once they get past the 6 month age, they start to become dogs and start to leave behind the puppy aspect. Our SuzyQ is not allowed on laps/furniture etc but she likes to sit by your feet, come over and lean on you, put her head in my lap and she is 6. She follows me around the house and outside. From reading other posts here, it appears that many boxers keep this trait their whole lives. They are very people orientated and want to always be close.

Cody is a 70 lb "baby" who still loves to sit in his moms lap, in the cold season he is all about snuggling. He really is a Daddy's boy however and follows DH around something fierce at 2 years old. Aniah really loves Cody best, my DS second and me third. She does however love to be right at my feet. She is not the snuggle bug that Cody is but she is very in tuned to people and wants to be around one of us at all times.

Caney Creek

That's not just a puppy thing... that's a boxer thing :) Caney is my "white shadow." She follows me EVERYWHERE in the house most of the time, and although she's not [usually] allowed on the furniture, she plops right down on the floor in front of me when I sit on the couch, and she begs to get on the bed with me when I go up to bed (which I usually let her). :) It's not something I mind though.

Tyson is almost always in the same room I am in. Even when we go for walks and BF is handling the leash, if I fall behind a couple steps, Tyson is always looking behind to see where I am. He cuddles at times, but is more content to just be in the same room. He will let me love on him all I want and not complain though. He perfers to sleep downstairs, but on the rare occasion he sleeps with us, it's always on my side of the bed. Squished between BF and dog, I have it made :)

We just brought our puppy home today. He will be 8 weeks on Thursday..I don't think the four days is going to really hurt him!
