Ruby had the best time this morning, there was no one in the park apart from this big golden retriever, I let her off the lead for the 1st time and they played and played, she did keep jumping up in his face because he was taller than her, is this common? I would think if she kept doing this to a not so placid dog it could cause problems? Do your boxers do this? :)

...sounds normal to me. You'll just have to watch the body language of the other dogs to make sure they will tolerate it as play and not take it as a "challenge".

aaahhh these boxers of ours! they do have their own way of playing, don't they? Ruby is playing like a typical boxer--they are loud, rambunctious, bouncy and "box" alot! as the other posters have said, just watch the body language and if the other dog(s) are becoming irritated, they will tell her--if she doesn't pay attention to their warnings (sometimes this only eggs Gracie on more!)--then recall her for a brief time-out to calm down and then try to redirect her attention elsewhere. i'm not sure if Ruby has encountered another boxer to play with yet--but you'll hear noises and see moves like never before!

It was great to see her having such a great time, I will be sure to watch the other dog/s. Thanks for your comments :)

We daren't let our Missy off the lead yet but we are activly socializing her around other dogs & people. She does tend to jump up at the other "bigger" dogs - hopefully in play. So far this week she's beaten up a German Shepard and intimidated a Collie!
It seems some other dogs are not quite sure how to handle the boxer's outlook on life!

I find this with Lola although saying that she IS calming down and doesn't launch at other dogs so much now. We met a puppy Rottie the other night and Lola just sat there in awe of him (he was huge) She did used to throw herself at other dogs but is much more wary now.
