I have gotten Tyson trained to not jump on me or my family but when anyone comes around he is all over them. What do I do about this? I can't use the ignore thing because it is an immediate issue that I must deal with, please help.

Thanks

Unfortunately there is not really an immediate fix for this. The ignoring thing really does work. You can also research the NILIF training method it may help. Good luck. :)

I put Roxy on her leash tethered to me when company comes over and she's just too excited. I let her off when she calms down.

Hank is 13 months old now and most company is suprised with how well he is doing. From early on I have made it a point to keep on him from the second someone comes over until they leave. I firmly tell him "off" and if he doesnt listen, I'll make him sit and hold him by the collar until he calms down. He is usually very good nowadays. I believe consistency and praise (when done right) is the key.

I totally agree - teaching the "OFF" command and being consistent in demanding that the dog obey each time will help. I don't think it is a "overnight" process - might take a few months of practice. Maybe you can have a friend come over and then practice with your friend entering the house several times until your dog doesn't jump up - then do this like every few days or on the weekends.
