Jumping and barking at dogs

I totally agree with ELubas. Lots of discipline and training should help. Mine has the same problem, no social skills. Most other dogs don't understand her style of play. I also have the added issue that she is totally unpredicatable with other dogs. Sometimes she plays and other times there is a fight so we don't go to the dog park anymore. Luckily she has a couple friends that we have play dates with so she has that dog play interaction. She is a rescue and I adopted her at 10 months. So I don't know how she was puppy socialized, if at all. She is the same on walks, too, with the Cujo behavior. It is very embarrassing (at least for me). I have been working with her and trying to establish my alpha role. She did very well today. We walked on the other side of the street from a dalmation and she looked with the intense face but no crazy lunge/bark reaction. I was so happy.

When we take Bayleigh to the dog park, she starts barking as soon as we pull into the lot. Barks and lunges all the way to the gate. We always get dirty looks and have overheard some comments. As soon as we get inside the gate, she flips on her back, submitting to every dog in the park. She is fine while at the park. When it is time to go, she barks all the way to the car and barks til we leave the lot.

If we meet a dog on a walk, she barks and lunges. If the other dog seems friendly, we will approach and Bayleigh is fine.

I got my girl at 10 weeks so I guess it is not always a lack of socialization-just who they are I think. I would not mind so much if she would learn to back off but she will FIGHT and that is something I can only manage-not eliminate. I would much prefer the pup wo barks all the way there and then submits! My Nysa gets her big brother Frazier in trouble as he will protect her-like she needs it. And my Fraze is the sweetest boy in the world-5 years old and not so much as a scuffle unless he is looking out for her. It's those girls!!
