My new baby is quite the jumper. We built her a fence that is 6 feet on one side and six fee on half of the other with a gate that is four feet with wiring over the gate. While I was at work yesterday she jumped the gate twice. Its a good thing my neighbor is retired and likes job because he took care of her. Then my babysitter put her on my front porch because she didn't want to let her in the house. Claire is used to being in the house. So she ripped the screen out of the front door. Oh do we have a long way to go. She actually did really good last night after I got home. She played with the kids and just had a good time. She slept on her rug all night and didn't wake me up until 6 to go potty. I wish I didn't have to work and that I could stay home with her all day, but then she wouldn't get all those toys. Any suggestions on the jumping? She is so wonderful with people but she growls and barks and acts like she is going to attack every dog she sees.

We have a very short fence (3 ft) and a very confident dog with high prey drive. Once he was about 5 months old he was jumping to get bunnies, play with the dogs across the street or to chase rollerbladers (they didnt appreciate it). We are planning some landscaping but until then the fence stays.
Last summer we ended up putting Brutus on a leader outside. It was long enough he could get to most of the yard but not run away. We also made sure it was long enough that if he did jump he would not hang himself. The silly boy jumped one time and realized he only had about 6 inches of lead on the other side. That was the last time he jumped and this year he is lead free.
Amaya would Never jump the fence. She lacks the confidence and would be to scared to try such a thing. She will however find loose boards and try to escape that way

My baby loves to jump too. He doesnt' have a fence to go after, so mainly he jumps in the air :p I've read it comes with the breed. Perhaps a higher gate or building a run may solve the problem?

We thought about a lead but until we get our backyard free from Claire wrapping herself around things or digging up the garden we decided to do a run. Our run has two garages on each side. We put up a 5.5 feet fence on once side and on the other side. She cleared the gate which was just 4.5 feet. So now we put up a board over the gate. She almost clears the board. We are justing watching her really close. I am so proud of her for being in the house for three days in a row without going potty. This morning I slept in until seven and she didn't go potty inside. What a good puppy. Thanks for the advice.
When I brought my puppy home - I had a 4 foot gate installed across my drive way (the other 3 sides of my house were already fenced in from the neighbors). Boy was I naive!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say the 4 foot gate lasted about 1 year (I know have a 6 foot privacy gate). Who would have known - she could jump that gate? Not me.
