My boyfriend is about ready to puchase a home. He told me that when he moved in we could get another puppy. Doc is 11 months old and is very spoiled. He gets jealous if we pet another dog or even hold a baby. I was wondering if any of you had ideas on how to get Doc used to us being around other puppies before we bring the new one home so it is less tramatic for everyone. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I had the same worries with Cooper when we got Tyson. They were fine though, just introduce them slowly. Doc will enjoy having a playmate more than you think!

I kinda would like to get a playmate for Austin, but he doesn't even like it when I talk to the dog next door at the fence!

Okay- Yeah! He has a house. Any next steps? I want a new puppy so much. I know how Doc gets bored during the day. I don't think that anyone understands how JEALOUS Doc gets. I don't want to get another puppy if it is going to be really bad on everyone trying to make them get along there whole life. How do I start getting Doc used to other dogs being around?

If you have friends with dogs, take walks with them and their dogs and you and your dogs. Go to doggie parks and socialize your dog with other dogs. Take the dog to PetsMart or PetCo or one of those places where you can take your dog inside, and let him be around other dogs. The key here is to let Doc become accustomed to other dogs in NEUTRAL TERRITORY. Then it becomes easier for him to accept another dog in his territory (your home or yard or any area where the dog goes every day on a walk).

The best way to get Doc to get along with other dogs is to expose him to as many other dogs in other situations as possible and let him see that other dogs are not always a threat to him

Be sure to take lots of treats and reward him for good behavior and the behaviors you are trying to elicit from him while socializing him.
