itchy butt!!!!

Ive noticed the last week or so Pepsi has been licking his anus. i know gross right. Well last night i yelled at him a few times til i realized something is bothering him. i tortured the poor dog and grabbed his tail to take a closer look. It seems on the right outter edge of his anus there is the red sore. I took a clean warm cloth and cleaned it but it didnt help his comfort any. i know the more he licks the worse it will get.

I dont know if this has to do with his problem now but about 1-2 weeks ago he got scared and barked really loud and some nasty liquid poop shot out of his butt. I happen to be on the phone with a friend who said it was probibly his anal glads releasing.

COuld this be his other anal glad impacted or something? where are the anal glands? any thoughts would be a greatly appreciated i really would rather not take him to the vet if i can afford it....

It sounds like he could have a problem with his anal glands. You need to take him to the vet. You don't want the problem to becoming more serious.

Cody went through a phase where he was liking his anus like crazy for about 3-4 days. He developed a sore on the side of his anus. We happened to be at the vet for Aniah's shots and had the Dr look at it. She checked his anal glands and they were fine. She just said to do our best to keep him from licking, as it was raw. Not easy to do but it cleared up in a few days. I would as well take him to see the dr especially since he had some something like projectile diarrhea. Good luck.

worried for what seems like nothing?

My husband checked his butt during the day and didnt see any of the redness i was talking about the day before and my husband also said he was not licking his butt.

I got home last night and he was fine. The first thing i did after our wiggle dance ritual hahaha was check his anus. The redness was gone and his anal glads didnt seem impacted. I wonder if he released his anal gland on his own the night i noticed it. He probibly did when i let him out to go potty before bed? Last night he didnt bother with his butt all night, so i am assuming he is feeling better.

I am going to keep an eye on it and make certian this doesnt keep happening. Doesnt help he is a BIG time licker. if any part of your body is near him while he is laying down he will literally lick you until you cant stand it any more.
