Of course these things always happen when the vet isn't open... Sox has been scratching herself so badly today, that she is nearly drawing blood on her chest area. We clipped her nails, gave her 25mg of Benadryl allergy (as that is what the vet has told us to do before when she has had reactions) but the poor thing won't stop. Called the emergency after hours clinic, they said the only thing they could think of is benadryl until I could get her in tommorrow morning. We haven't changed anything around the house, so I don't know whats going on? I guess we're just looking for some guidance or insight as to what this reaction could stem from, and what others may have done? Thanks for your input!

Poor Sox. Clipped nails can be scratchier than unclipped one. I would make sure that they are nice and smooth. You could also try taping socks on her feet so that she can't do any damage. How much does she weigh. You may be able to give her a little more Benadryl. You can give 1mg per pound.

I hope Sox is feeling better soon. Do you have any idea what she is allergic too?

Itching and Allergies

My Baxter has the same problem. I went through the same thing. It was over a weekend when he had his ears basically bleeding from itching. They were rall. I gave him benadryl which did nothing! I took him to the vet and they gave me Clariton, that did nothing. So I went for the Allgery Testing, that cost me $250.00 I found out he was allergic to different types of grass, weeds, trees highly allergic to dust. Lovely huh. So the next step was the allergy shots which the vet swore would work there was another $250.00, well those shots only made things a heck of a lot worse so I took him to another vet. He told me to stop the shots because sometimes they can make it worse which it did. He gave Baxter a shot ( I forget the name of it) and hydroyzime (spelling may be wrong) that helped for a good two months he was great. Now he is itching his neck so we are trying a new medicine. We start that tomorrow. I hate it because I feel so bad for him. The vet said I could take him to an alleregy specialist or a dermontologist if I wanted. I want to see what this new medicine does, it begins with a T. Hopefully it works. Hope your little one is getting better. Maybe once allergey season is over things will get better for both of them :)
