Issues with potty time

My boxer Dudley is 3 month old and I am having issues with his potty training.
I am home all day so I keep him on a regular schedual. I take him out on leash every hour to releave himself. We go to the same spot of the back yard so he knows when I want him to potty. He has no problems with this.

My issue is I want him to start telling me he has to go. If i wait for him to scratch at the door or come get me he wont. He will just go on the floor right in front of me, or wonder into the dining room.How Do i train him to signal he wants to go out. My vet told me he should be doing this by now. We have been practacing for almost a month. I am not sure how long it takes to train a boxer puppy.

Do a search here on BW about bell training. It is quite simple to train if done right. I started this with my first girl at 4 months of age and she picked it up in one afternoon. She wasn't perfect in that she knew that ringing the bell meant she had to potty and the door would open but she knew that ringing the bell made the door magically open. Putting the two together came shortly thereafter. I started my girl now the day we brought her home. Being younger (almost 9 weeks) took her a bit longer to know that ringing the bell meant it would open but it happened pretty quickly. Then the trick is tons of persistence in doing the same thing every time near the door....ring and open...potty outside and praise.
I have no idea what your vet is talking about! 3 months equals 12 weeks old......FAR from knowing that they must go outside to potty and even a bit further off from learning how to alert you!

I ordered a bell a few days ago hoping it would help. Now I feel better about it. Thank you for the advice. I can't wait to get him going with it.
