Please someone tell me if their boxer does this. My 5 year old spayed female very friendly boxer will "stalk" other dogs when we go to the off leash parks. She mainly does it to smaller dogs and dogs on leash. She will crouch down very low and literally almost crawl on the ground till she gets right up to them and then either does nothing or "boxes" them, which doesn't make their owners very happy. The stalking scares people also. If anyone else has had this peculiar behaviour please let me know and tell me what to do about it.

Lily kind of does this too. She will walk really slowly, then crouch down, then run full speed at the dog so she can bean around it. Its either this or she walks up and sniffs the dog normally. I just tell the owner before she strikes that she just wants to play and usually they are ok with it. I dont know if there is much you can do except calling her to you or yelling 'OI' to snap her out of it. Thats what I do anyway if the other owner/dog looks too nervous.

Oh I have too BIG stalkers here. It is soooo funny to watch. I say they are in their "lion mode". They will stalk each other in the back yard big time. They will get down really low and crawl like the other can't see them. Then....POUNCE! And they're off boxing away. People at the dog park think it is hilarious. Also I hear alot "who's dog is that hurdling the other dogs?" Oscar likes to jump over other dogs doing boxer burns. He just soars over them like he can fly.

Some pups have stronger "prey" drives than most. I would just be careful and try to avoid the smaller dogs if you can. I say this only because while owners get scared they will not "react" while another pup might snap in fear and you don't want a fight to break out. Having a call to break this stalking mode seems like a great idea. One of the owners at a pond I go to has a whistle he uses when his dog gets too excited or shows behavior he doesn't like. Good Luck, she is gorgeous by the way!

Meggie does this too. It looks really funny and makes people laugh when she does this to tiny dogs, because she looks as if she is acting all scared of them! Unfortunately, as soon as she pounces, the fun is over, so I have to get hold of her quick when I see her doing the stalk!

My Angel does this and it is so funny. She thinks she is invisible if she crawls. she loves to do this if she is after something she is not suppose to have. She just thinks we can't see her so she can get what she wants.lol

I have one too,she stalkes like a big lion & then charges. This is common in Boxers & can scare people that don't understand them. My 2 have a ball,Susie will stalk & Cletus will jackhammer at her, then take off running as fast as they can go! Hanley

Layla does the occasional stalk at the dog park too! I think its so cute. She never gets too close, just kinda shrinks down as she's taking in the newcommer. We also play a game at home, where we stalk each other, we both move oh so slowly towards each other and then when she can't handle it anymore she'll pounce on me!

I've never seen Bentley stalk other dogs but he likes to sort of stalk his toys. He use to get low and crawl at them but now he's sort of realized they don't see him either way. So instead, he'll put his nose like 6 inches from his toy and just stare it down for awhile then pounce on it!

Ali does this all the time with her buddy Brook. She hides and then stalkes on her belly. They are hilarious. Her buddy is a big rottie/doberman cross so it doesn't matter if they play rough.
