Is Vet responsible?

A couple of months ago we had Cyrus (4 yr old male boxer) neutered. I know, long over due. At any rate, when my husband and I went to pick him up he was excited and and jumping. I didn't check him out closely as I assumed the vet did. On our very short ride home I kept looking at him and noticed immediately that he had a HUGE BUMP on top of his head - size of two golf balls side by side. Before taking him out of the car I called the vet to make sure there was still a doctor there b/c I was coming back.

Doctor (vet) said she had no idea what happened, he seemed fine, just keep an eye on him. I was a bit concerned about her lack of explanation.

Three days later I had my husband take him back in and they put Cyrus on antibiotics. They said he probably scraped his head when he was getting out of the cage the day of his neuter and there may have been medicine?? on the cage. The bump went down but a huge scab developed and was hanging there by a few hairs. It finally fell off but no fur has grown back.

My poor baby now has a big (2.5 inches long by 1 inch wide) bald spot on his head. I think he's beautiful anyway but does anyone think the vet should give some sort of explanation or at least have paid for the meds he went on? I don't know, am I being greedy or unreasonable? I don't know what to do.

Please advise!?

Oh my, sorry about what happened...I would definitely want some answers too and go to another vet for another opinion. Obviously, you aren't getting satisfactory answer from this one.

Hope that everything turns out fine

sorry about you neg vet experience, i love my vet, she has saved my meathead at least 5 times since i rescued him, but i am a client and she is running a business, so if i'm not sure about anything i ask like you did.
imagine you took you car to be fixed and when you picked it up it had a dent or scrape on it. you'd want answers, right? i'd probably find a new vet, don't worry, bald is beautiful!

I agree - I'd definitely continue to look for the answers to your questions.

We continue to love our furkids regardless, but the vet should be held accountable for his/her actions or lack thereof if he or she is "at fault".

At the very least, I'd go to another vet for a second opinion.

Best of luck,

Leah
