Hello everyone...

Zeus came home 2 days ago and is eating and drinking fine. To me he looks a bit under weight, but I don’t know if that is because I am use to “bigger breed” puppies. He is showing some ribs and is thin in the tummy (you can see him in my gallery).

The wife works for the post office so she stopped there to show everyone Zeus, while she was there she put him on the Postal scale and he weighs 10 lbs 8 oz. To me in hand, I don’t think he feels that heavy, but it is a Postal scale. Is this weight ok for an 8 week old pup?

Zeus is an adorable baby ;) I would say that that weight is definately more then enough. You should see ribs on a boxer and his tummy being thin is a good sign, you don't want a bloated belly that can be a sign of worms. All boxers grow at different rates and you will really not know how big he will be until hes done growing and that is around 2 years old growing up and until 3 years old bulking up. Enjoy your puppy, he is absolutely adorable. grin2icon

I think 10 pounds is a good weight. I can't remember for sure but I think Duke was less than that. It is good to see a couple ribs, it is easier on their joints when they are growing. You can still see Duke's ribs but from what I have read they don't start filling out until they are 2.

Your pictures are adorable! The one with Serenity is so cute!

Aww, he looks so perfect! What an adorable little guy!

Chloe was "medium" in her birth order - and if I remember correctly, she was around 10 lbs at 8 weeks, and around 13lbs at 9 weeks :D (at 16 weeks she turned anorexic - but that's a whole different story :D).

But he looks perfectly round and just squishable - with big paws! His ribs will show for a long long time - so you might as well get used to it (I would be more concerned if the ribs weren't showing!)

Enjoy him!

Puppy Weight

Yeah that sounds about right. Kit was 16 lbs at 10 weeks and is now about 22 lbs at 13 weeks. They seriously just keep getting bigger everyday!! Some days you will wake up and look at them and swear they grew a couple inches over night. Well, because they most likely have! :)

He is adorable.

Weight Gain

I just took Toby to his appointment yesterday, and at almost 14 weeks, he was 13lbs. 5 oz. At 10 weeks, he was 6 lbs. 8oz., so he has pretty much doubled in size in the past 3 1/2 weeks!! I was shocked! I knew he had grown, but wow!
I switched to a different vet (long story) who is big on the BARF diet and holistic care. He stressed the importance of keeping dogs on the "skinny side". He said that dogs that are overweight are much more likely to have cancer and other problems. He just got back from a seminar given by an oncologist, stating that ALL Boxers over age 9 will have cancer. He wasn't completely sold on that statistic, but agrees that cancer in Boxers is pretty common. He said that feeding a BARF diet, getting adequate excerise, and preventing them from being overweight is the best prevention.

What a cutie. He looks great! Simeon was 12.1 pounds at 7.5 weeks, but he was the biggest in his liter. He has his ribs showing as well.

Our Stella was 10 lbs at 9 weeks when we brought her home. She is now 14 weeks, and about 16-17 lbs. Ribs aren't showing as much now.

10 Pounds is quite fine. My Elvis was 12 lbs at 8 weeks, and at his 13 1/2 week vet appt. today he was a wopping 27 pounds! No need to fret, he will be a monster before you know it! Just make sure you feed him 3, or preferably 4 times a day and you will be good to go! Best of luck!
