We have this puppy food called Kasco and I have been comparing the ingredients to eukanuba and iams. IT has protein of 30 %, moisture of 11% and some other stuff. But iams and eukuba i believe is around 26%. Also, max poops all day long, like 4 or 5 times. he is 13 weeks. what is normal? Does the food have anything to do with it?

Absolutly the food has everything to do with it :) The more a dog poops a day, the bigger the stools are, and the more the poop smell all indicate the food is a poor one. There are some really really great kibbles out there for doggies not that are made of the best ingredients. If you do a search here using the search button at the top you will find lots of information on kibbles :) Good luck to you!

I use Canidae and our puppy loves it. My local pet shop carries Innova, Canidae, Wellness and a few others so I got pretty lucky. The pet shop owner said the three are comparable, althoguh the Innova is to "rich" for some dogs.

Yes food can make a difference. Good advice above.

One other thing, puppies are poop machines. They grow so rapidly and use up the food and energy so quickly (thus we feed 3 x per day when they are young, to balance out the body's use of food). They begin to poop less as they mature and can "hold" more and have more muscle control over their bowels and bladders, etc., and their use of food slows to more steady growth patterns.

Please check out our puppy section for more interesting information on puppies http://www.boxerworld.com/puppy/

Happy Poopie Scooping !! ;)

Mike, I'm not an expert, but it sounds like 9 weeks is pretty young to be feeding only twice a day. Usually twice a day feedings happen at around 6 months of age. My adult boxer and now my puppy are on twice a day feedings. My puppy (at 8 months) still sometimes likes to have a lunchtime snack to tide him over until supper time. Is there someone there with your puppy during the day that could try a feeding at lunchtime? If your puppy won't eat it, just be sure to pick it up until the next feeding. There is all kinds of "puppy feeding" info in that forum on this site. Maybe search in there and you will find your answer. Best of luck, Paula

If Rocky is fine with 2x per day, no problem. 3x a day isn't absolutely necessary, but is can be helpful for puppies. I do advise never to feed only once a day, however. that's too much stress on the gastrointestinal system to have to digest that much food in one sitting. Twice a day is just fine.
