I have a 2 year old boxer that I've had since he was 7 weeks old (Diesel). My neighbor said that we could have the last puppy in his litter if we wanted her (my daughter cried plus when I sent to see her she was adorable and the owner had been keeping her outside). Yes, he's a BYB but since he wasn't selling her we took her. After 4 weeks she (Jazzi) and Diesel are starting to get along better. They played off-leash in the house yesterday for awhile. On several occasions Jazzi would growl and bark at him and they would start to get rough with each other (barking & getting in each other's face). Diesel is just a rough boy anyway. I would think he would try not to be so rough with her since she's so much smaller than him but that's not the case. Is this how boxer's play or should I be concerned? Jazzi doesn't seem to back down, sometimes she might try to get away from him. Thanks for any advice anyone has to offer.

I second that they sound like its an all out dog fight when they play, but they never bite, scratch hard enough to draw blood. There are marks, but never any blood and if one of them yelps the other backs off.

Play

My baby Drake plays rough with others who play rough with him. But someone who plays more gentle brings out that side of his play:)

they do tend to sound like they're killing each other when they play. . . .

:)

YES they do ;) My two will go at each other for what seems like forever...but if there's ever a "yip" they stop immediately, check to make sure everythings all right, give a sorry kiss, go get and drink, etc...and start at each other all over again...it's hilarious...and also gets them to sleep good at night ;)

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I feel soooo much better now. I haven't heard any 'yips' yet so that must be a good thing.

Exactly! At first i really thought they were trying to kill eachother but now i just let them go on, if i see its getting too ruff then i will separate.

When my friend's two year old boxer met my eight week old Gracie, I was scared by how loud and rough they played. I have since learned that it is just how boxers play! If there is no yelping and no one is running away with their nubby tucked, it is all good fun!

Around here it's like the WWF  Usually it's Dozer & Cissy, then Bownser will get in on the fun.I was talking to my neighbor on the phone one day,all the kids were playing and the neighbor thought something was wrong :) Told her it was just the kids playing! 90% of the time it's Cissy that has started it all!
