Ruby is 10 months old, we have come through the biting stage, shes great on recall, and amazing fun, but in the last month has started to chew the furniture, I woke up last sunday to find she had ripped the sofa to shreds, even when we are in the room with her she trys to bite the sofa, i have said no quite firmly and pulled her off the sofa, and she becomes really angry, but just for a few seconds,. she sleeps with us and has done for the last three months, and have never had a problem, but in the last few weeks shes started pacing the room at night, finds it hard to settle down, and thinks its playtime. Any advice would please.

Welcome to the Boxer Club, my Susie has destroyed 2 sofas, I mean shreds! I discovered Susie was bored & needed more exercise & that is what took care of my problem.

I thing you could use is an item called" Bitter Apple" It is a spray you can buy. You spray it on various items that you do not want chewed on. The bitter taste keeps the dogs from chewing on that item. It may or may not work. The bottom of the sofa would be an ideal place for this item. My boxer is chewing all of my fiancee's things, but they are things you wouldn't apply bitter apple too.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

This is why I have not bought new "fur in ture". LOL
You will have to get strict with her until she understand you all are the pack leaders. You need to practice strict NILF.( nothing in life is free) There are several threads about it and you can google it to learn more.

Let us know how it is going.

Mindy is a chewer and she needs to be watched. She gets a stern 'No' when she puts her mouth on something that is not hers and then I give her one of her chew toys (she has about a thousand). Over about the last 3 months, she has gotten much better and is able to have the run of the house when I am home and even when I sleep.

Mindy will occassionally at night, especially if I had to work a full day and she was stuck in the crate, be very playful and not want to sleep or let me sleep. When that happens, she goes into the crate. Typically, I can leave her about in about 10-20 minutes and she is settled down enough to sleep. However, on a rare occassion she had to sleep in the crate all night because she wouldn't settle down. She hasn't done this in a while and I am sure it is due to her getting older and coming up on or turning 2 years old (not sure of exactly how old she is).

You are also in the teenage years, so if you haven't already, look into NILF, IMHO it is the best thing you can do for your dog. Let us know how she is doing.

Also we had a golden ret. around 10 months old chewed out our new bed. Dakota just destroyed all of his dog beds, he was 10 months old(all four of them in less than 1 week)

FYI: Napoleon's "phase" lasted until he was almost 3 years old.

I didn't think he was ever going to grow out of it. No matter what we did, he ate things. Bitter apple didn't help at all either. And you never catch them, so you can't really scold them properly. We started leaving him in his crate more. Exercise helps tremendously, but it takes a lot of exercise to wear them out. A happy boxer is a tired boxer.

Good luck, keep us posted...
