Is this a Boxer trait ??

I adopted a very hansom man about 6 months ago...and let me just say, now I see why you all go crazy over the breed:D :D

Well to make it short and sweet...everytime Duke goes to lay down for the nite or just an afternoon snooze he goes in circles about 5 to 6 times until he is wrapped up in a little ball, do all other Boxers do this??...., oh and one more, is there any way to get them to woo hoo, I have heard so much about this and Duke has never done it, lets just say I do not think he had much of a life before us. Plus he is pushing almost 9 years, but still acts like a puppy, which I know is one of there traits !!!!

As for the woo-hoo song, I have no Idea bailey has never done that :( but for the turning around 5 times before they lay down!!! YEP bailey does this every single time she is going to settle in for the night! It's tooooooo funny.

I remember reading something about this a while back. If memory serves me correctly, the walking in circles is very normal among dogs. Ancestors in the wild did this to flatten the grass and to get it going in the same direction. This in turn would make for a really nice bed to sleep in. Once is up to the dogs standards, he would lay down and rest. So I guess it has been passed from generation to generation as one of those traits.

As far as the woo-woo song, every dog is different so there really isn't a definite way to get Duke to sing. For Riley, he does this when I have a new toy that he's really eager to play with or if he sees someone or something outside that's normally not there. Just keep trying with the new toys and new sounds and hopefully he'll sing for you sooner or later.

Well, about the "woo hoo" yeah, every dog is different, but I have found a couple of sure fires. Try a harmonica! They bug out!!! They will sing forever. We tried a wine glass and ringing the edge of it with your wet finger. That got our Riley going. His lips looked soooo FUNNY!!!

Yup, I read to they turn to flatten the grass! As for the woo woo song, not here! I would give anything to hear someones boxer woo woo I will try the glass thing thought, it may work!

Tallie does the circles. She is an under the covers girl in bed so it is really great in the middle of the nite when she does her circles to get comfy again:rolleyes: She goes back to sleep and we are wide awake.
She is a very vocal girl who does the woo woo song especially to her cookie box until she gets her homemade treat.

Yes Domino does the circle thing too but he adds something that drives me nuts he takes his paws and nails:eek: and will dig at his bed like he is getting it in just the right spot. It is strange.....but thats domino.

And with the wooo wooo I chase domino then I point at him and say what what "OK you go, you go"and he will start wooo woooing away!:D lovicon

both ours do the 3 circle thing, and Lucy does the digging thing too - drives me nuts, because their bed has a flannel cover on it, and she'll wear it out in no time!

Circles

My boxer also does the circle thing. Usually about 4-5 circles and then he lays down. He also does the woo woo woo thing if that is what yall are talking about. He also does this funny little hopping on his back legs when he hears the doorbell or something. I call it the deer hop. It is so funny. Boxers are certainly not void a personality.
