O.k. you boxer maniac’s , have you heard this one “ is that a Great Dane?” Gus, our flashy fawn that is cropped do you think it was the ears? Oh please!!! Then of course my white Lily was the pit bull mix, at least he put in the mix part. Great Dane is a new one for me I am used to the pit thing. Sometimes I feel he is a Great Dane when he wants to sit on my lap and I do think he has a Great Dane tongue. Why don’t they just ask what kind of dog is that instead of making a sorry attempt to guess!

Gusweiser and Silly Lily our Great Dane and pit mix, yeah they are what ever you want them to be just go away!

NormaJean - I'm in Northern CA and get the Pit thing all the time-I was at the grocery the other day, my two parked right outside the picture windows by the checkstands (so I can see what they are up to - little devils) heads hanging out the windows with slobbery tongues just waiting to lick the first person that dare walk near the car - so I'm standing in line and the clerk asks the bag boy "who's pit bulls are those?" Hello! I said "they're Boxers and they are mine" mr knowitall of course responds with the dumbfounded look and an "oh, whatever - they look mean".
They would look alot meaner if they had cropped ears! Sometimes I think the ignorance in the breed guessing has something to do with the fact Tenaia is a dark brindle, which I have found tends to elicit the "pit bull" response more often than if I only have Tess with me (rarely the case) since she is fawn colored. Must be a Caifornia thing....

You are right Jen, they allow dogs at our farmers market and I will take them and it is like parting waters. People mooooove right on out of the way for us. It’s great, I don’t have any crowds around me I can pick my veggie’s and take my time. I took some pic’s to work and of course they are all Gus, Lily, Ron and I. Comments, I know your dogs are not mean but they sure look that way. Those are some mean looking dogs I would be scared. ( good ) and of course “ pit “ and they are huge and scary looking. If they only had a brain. You can call them what you want but don’t call them late for supper.

I have been asked if Brogan was a Bullmastiff, but the best was "is that a Sharpei"??:p

Brogan is very wrinkly , but not even close to being as wrinkly as a Sharpei!!

This one really bugs me. I have a white boxer. As most of you probally know boxers (no matter what color they are) have dark spots on their skin. Well on white boxers they show up really well. So the questions I get are: is that a dalmation? "no it's a boxer" (especially when he's wet)

Really a boxer? "Yes"
Is he albino? "No" Albino boxers don't exist. And if he was albino he wouldn't have a black nose or any black spots on his skin. Plus he would have pink eyes not brown/blue eyes.

It's so annoying!!!


When we first got him we were thinking about handing out "bio" cards about him stating his name, age, breed, where we got him, that he was not albino or blind (because of his 1/2 blue eye) but deaf etc.... because walking him 10 blocks took 2 hours from all the people asking the same stupid questions.

Although I don't get offended when i get the question "is that a pitbull?" (Because i LOVE all dogs including pitbulls they are most beautiful! So i take it as a compliment) however it burns me when they say it in that disgusted or feared tone! :( As IF i am going to bring a vicious animal to a public place??? My least favorite question is instead of "can i pet her" is "does she bite?" What the hell?? "yea go ahead and pet her...you don't need fingers!" grrr...

And i have to say I have Dasia she is a beautiful Brindle and Bianca who is white with a little brindle spot behind her right ear..and people tend to favor Bianca more then Dasia they think Dasia looks scary. :( I think it has to do with the Brindle coloring not too many people like that coloring for some reason....

I was asked if Loki was a bullmastiff. If you've ever seen bullmastiff pups you can understand why people ask that question.
I'll never understand the people mistaking them for a pitbull.

I am suprised that people either ask what he is or they know. The majority of people know that he is a boxer say how good looking and are all over him with love. I have never experienced negitive response to his breed or guessed his breed. I must either be around a lot of intelligent people or they are just good at guessing.

When we had Hooligan our Brindle boxer he was alwasy been called a pit bull. And now with Finnegan our white boxer he is alwasy been called an american bulldog, and even a dalmation a coupe of times due to the spots on his skin, and and lets not forget the Albino.

It is kind of irratating but not everyone is in to dogs or knows too much, only a few years ago I did not know what a boxer was.

And the number of people who think they are mean looking, its kind of funny if they only knew they would only be kissed and drooled upon:p
