Is taping safe for my boxer

We have an 11 week old puppy with nice natural ears. They are starting to fly away because he has started teething. I have researched taping natural ears and would like to try it on my puppy.

However, they indicate that we should leave them taped for 5-6 days ideally.

My question is: Is it safe to leave my puppy's ears taped while he is unattended in his crate? He would only be left for two hours maximum.

Also, while playing with my older boxer should I be concerned? They never play unattended.

Thanks!

As long as the puppy can not pull the tape off and eat it, it should be fine.
Harley ears were taped for quite a while and I did leave the tape on when he was in his crate. I used electrical tape which was very sticky. I would leave it on till the stickyness wore off and it pulled off easily.
Harley also played with other dogs while taped and some dogs did seem to go after the tape but no harm was done. Maybe a different color would have attracted less attention (Harley's tape was bright yellow).

During teething a boxer with natural ears can have a the ears start to flip "flying nun" type of a look. If you tape them during this time you can keep the shape of the natural creases.

Do a search on here and type "tape/natural" and there are a lot of links posted that give you pictures and directions.

Keep in mind, some boxers have ears that are too short and will never hang right no matter what you do (my two year ols, Cole, for example) but Copper's ears are huge! They are just acting up right now. :p

How long does it take the pup to get used to it?

It took Harley longer to sit still for the actual taping than for him to get used to having the tape on his ears.
If you have someone to hold a treat for him while you tape that helps.
Good Luck

I taped harley's ears for a long time. can't tell you exactly how long.
Yes i am pleased with the results, however his ears still don't lay perfectly most of the time.
they don't, however, try to stand up like they once did.
the only problem i seem to have with them now is the back of the ear bends.
i gave up on the taping when harley was about 7 months but i do still massage the ears into place which helps.
i truely believe his ears would have looked much worse if i had not taped and massaged.
it can't hurt to try anyway.

Can someone post pictures of what the ears should look like afterwards, and what they looked like before that would make someone want to tape them? I have just always been curious. Thanks.

Henry on the front page of BW is what they should look like natural. Let me see if I can post a picture of my Copper with his ears begining to fly away.
