I took Madison to the vet on Friday and they weighted her at 22lbs, she is only 3 months old. Three weeks earlier she was only 12.6. I am just concerned that maybe she is growing to fast. I am feeding her Nutro Lamb & Rice. I know that Boxers are not large breed dogs but should she be feeding her large breed food??

Chloe was 13 lbs at 9/10 weeks and 26+ lbs at 16 weeks. I don't know how much she weighs this week - but she gains 2/3 lbs a week...

I think your pup is o.k. :D The vet would have told you if she was picking up too fast.

Boxers are not large breed dogs, and should not be fed large breed dog food.

Please do some research here on "quality kibbles" and consider switching her to a different food (one that is not for large breeds or puppies)

Good luck

Oh, I am not feeding her large breed puppy food. I just remember reading that the large breed puppy slows growth so there are no joint problems. I was just concerned that she was growing to fast. I just was shocked when we went to the vet and she had gained 10lbs in a week.. I am hoping to switch her over to Canidae but haven't found a place to buy it yet.

10 lb in a week does sound like a lot, yes. Are you feeding her a puppy formula or adult? If it's the former, you might like to think about switching to an adult food. Many puppy foods contain VERY high levels of both protein and calcium which causes growth problems in some pups (the "ideal" is 22% protein, can't recall for the calcium though). No need to think of large breed food, but an adult/all-life-stages formula from the outset could be a good idea for your girl.

Not to worry, Konah was like that. He weighed in on Friday at 49.2 lbs and he's only just over five months. He's a healthy happy "big boned" boxer. The vet says his weight is perfect for his size so i wouldn't worry about your little girl. She's growing like the weeds that puppies are. We looked at picks of Konah from June and can't believe he was ever that little.

I can relate. Four weeks ago when we brought Koda home he weighed 8 lbs. Now, he weighs about 17. And I'm guessing becasue two weeks ago he weighed 13 at the vets. Now, he's even bigger. Boy, they sure dont stay small long at all do they. Like a matter of weeks. Koda's eating pro-plan chicken and rice formula for puppies. He has taken very nice to it.

Tyson is 17 weeks and weighs 22.5 lbs. He was 10 lbs at 9 weeks. He gained about 5 lbs the first week, and has slowly been putting on weight since then (about a pound a week). He looks a little skinny, but not bad. He's getting more tall than anything.

I have a weight/age chart on Quinsi's age page. The link is in my sig. He was about 22 pounds at 3 months. In a couple of days we will be updating it to his 10 month pic and weight. Last time we checked he was 70 pounds...that was about 3 weeks ago.

They grow up way too fast!

10 pounds in one week does sound like a lot, but I have seen 4-5 pounds in a week with my boxers as puppies.

Spike weighs about 42-45 pounds at 4 months old. You just never know. He recently "shot up" and looked so thin, leggy, now he is filling back in (barely see his ribs), and his legs are thick. His coat has also thickened up and is very shiny.

Just remember, similar to children, they will grow in spurts.

By the way, I am glad the moderator mentioned (above) that it might be a good idea to think about switching to the adult kibble. I did this very thing above 5 weeks ago and the difference is amazing. I completely dropped the brand of kibble that I had used for years (IAMS), and I am actually feeding a cheaper food (with good ratios), and the difference in all of the boxers is wonderful! Their stomachs are settled, their coats are shinier, and they are eating better.

Best wishes!
